Good idea but if the bolts still have thread on them, the hinges travel as they open, maybe not a big deal but they do translate.

May work out good for my garage door plan on building. As the door opens the seal lifts and scrubs the concrete less.

But if you put more than one of thees questionable hinges on a door make sure the threads are going the same way, & the it lifts up rather than down might be a good idea.

i appreciate your inventivity. these work for a light gate. and when you need to remove the gate i think it's pretty difficult to apart and then put together again.

but the weight of the heavy gate I think the thread is not enough to hold forever. it will also slowly tear the thread especially if its ordinary bolts and nut prone to rust.

It don´t need the thread to work. Just weld the bolt to the nut you prefer and if the thread get rubbed nothing happens.

The hinge will climb and drop on the thread so whatever is opening wont sit flush and could catch if it hast to travel more tha 45°. Great idea but not clean enought

It is just a demo made out of scrap genius. Anybody with a welder and any kind of fabrication skills knows they need more than 1 hinge to hang a door. The standard door has 3 hinges so I am sure most people will use at least 3 hinges per door.

Great improvised,,but HINGES have load capacity like Dead load for weight..that tiny invention has limitations please consult your city engineers before using this experiment..door weight HINGES door frame/jamb that will carry the weight of a steel door..use biggest bolts and nuts for DIY Hinges..😎😎

Good idea. Ive used small tubing and small round stock that slides inside the tubing before to make hinges, but not nuts and bolts. I like it. I subscribed btw!

Great idea for light duty or based on your definition of “heavy duty”. If you’re going to go this route, I would recommend using some washers as spacers in between square tubing while welding to take the guesswork out of it

This should not be classified as heavy duty when those are tack welds. No weld strength considerations.
