Beautiful technique. It reminds me of a cross between a Monet and Van Gogh painting.

BTW -- maybe do a Spotify playlist for dying. Record and include your theme song.

Experimente e descubra a resposta! Divirta-se.

How to you address the paper? Do you rinse it or just let it dry in place?
@NancyGamon
@NancyGamon 2 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy you asked about the paper! I love to put book pages and other papers under the fabric when I'm doing ice dyeing. They just need to be sturdy enough to tolerate being wet for 22-24 hours. After the dye process is complete, I immerse the colored paper in a container of water and very gently swish it around, changing the water 2 or 3 times until most of the loose dye is out. Then I lay the paper flat to dry on an old towel. At that point, the paper is colorfast and can be used in collage without bleeding.

Hi Nancy thank you for the video! Do you think using a stencil would be good too? Ofc the beauty of dyeing is because every shape is going to be random but I think using a stencil would be interesting too

Hi Ravissant XXIV, That is an intriguing idea! If you give it a try, I'd love to hear about your process and see the results. Do you use stencils in other work? Nancy

nancy do you not use soda ash?
@NancyGamon
@NancyGamon 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathy, yes, definitely. The fabric is washed and then soaked in a soda ash solution for at least 10 minutes before beginning the process. Thanks for your question! Nancy

Do you ever break up the ice cubes to make them more like chips
@NancyGamon
@NancyGamon 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Engelhafen, It is indeed possible to do this same technique with either ice cubes, crushed ice, or snow. The smaller the ice particles are, the more watercolor-like the results will be. Nancy
