The particular type of rice cake you are using is for Korean rice cake soup, Tteoguk. The kind you want for Tteokbokki is long and cylindrical shaped ones; but it should taste similar, only a slight difference in texture.

Usually when we make tteokbokki, we use the regular tteok, because the flat oval tteok is for like soup dishes like mandu soup. But overall yum!!

Next time you do shrimp, mix mustard mayo and ketchup together, and add a little cajun seasonings. that's what we use in louisiana for dipping for seafood, we call it goup, it's so good do equal parts of the mayo mustard and ketchup
