One of my favorite reasons for why people imitate animal products is that it's cultural. When I get with friends and family, I still have the nostalgic desire to have pulled pork or brats on 4th of July. And there are great substitutes so I can keep up these sorta cultural traditions but without meat

I think the other reason we imitate meat dishes is just to show that you can create alternatives that are just as good if not better. I know it brings me a lot of pleasure to create dishes like this that my meat eating friends go "wow I never thought it possible"

@@janeiljackson4032 right. Claiming moral superiority because that cultural tradition is associated with eating meat is just a form of bitterness and not really virtuous. Being a vegetarian is difficult to integrate with culture. Especially on your own, but it‘s worth it and makes life so much more enjoyable

Great way to answer the question about "re-creating" meat products! Not to mention, it's easier to help "sell" our omnivore friends on the fact that they don't' have to miss out on the great food they love. You can just learn to make it in a way that does no harm. I can't wait to try this!

Omg I'm transitioning. And gosh it's been so hard. I've tossed a lot of my favs. I'm still having fish. I've found lots of recipes for copying flavors. I'm not sure what to do for fish and lobster and I just find it soooo hard to let go of those 2. Help!

@@lee-annataylor8122 Try Gardein's fishless filets. They are amazingly similar to fried fish. Fry them in oil, versus baking, for them to be the most realistic. I have even taken their batter off and beer battered them and they were so delicious! I didn't tell my bf what they were and he thought we were eating Gortons fish! 😂 With lobster, if you can get your hands on lobster mushrooms I heard they taste like lobster. They even have the same color and apparently pretty close to the same texture also. I havent tried them, but Sauce Stache has. Check out his video on them. It looked incredible!

Nah…if people want meat let them have it. Plants are living just as well & we kill them to survive, animals are know different especially in regions where plants are plentiful. There hasn’t been a vegan meat substitute yet that simulates meat properly, not even impossible burger.

Thank you, so much! I’m attempting a semi-vegan diet, after 78-plus years on this planet. Another, similar “chicken” tofu recipe was ahead of yours in the KZbin channels. Since I am a KFC fan, for the smell and taste, I thought a home-made vegan version with gluten-free flour and less salt might be something to make. I was just at the local organic store. Will have to go back for the “corn flakes”. Not a fan of corn, so I will have to find something similar, but more digestible by my body. NICE, that you can make these recipes as a team. Blessings!

The science behind is the water as it freezes literally stabs in between the layers and causes that flaking. Then you do it the second time and it causes a whole new layer of flaking it's just adding the texture by the ice crystals creeping. I tried to make it sound as gross as possible for those who still really think they need to eat an animal LOL I'm just kidding. I've got just a couple more days and I will have 56 years of vegan so I'm the grandma with a sense of humor. I just wish I had somebody to do this kind of work for me now. Thanks for putting out good recipes for people. And for the people who are worried about oil this isn't enough to affect your life greatly if it's done at the right temperature it will not absorb into the middle learn to get the right kind of oils and learn to use the right temperatures and the oil seals on the outside if it's done proper and you can always spray them and do them in air fryers though it's not near as good! PS poultry seasoning which has a few spices in it already. They all very from brand to brand. Then salt pepper .Any amount of ground red pepper that you would want if you want spiciness garlic onion powder. And places like KFC use a huge amount of monosodium glutamate or MSG. And they consider that one of the spices. So sorry celery powder if you can find it but it's usually celery salt so omit some of the salt or all of the salt. You can always take a small drop of batter and put it in the oil to try the saltiness. And go from there realizing that you have a totally different flavor in the middle that might not be salty enough. The Italian seasoning is going to give a very different taste than what most people are used to poultry seasoning would be what you recognize even though they share some of the same spices the sage is going to be the big kicker. I hope people see this and it helps

Other than thinking about how much I have missed KFC nuggets, this was going through my mind at the very mention of Cornflakes: [explaining cereal contest rules] Vyvyan : You have to write in 10 words what Cornflakes mean to you. So I wrote: Cornflakes. Cornflakes. Cornflakes, Cornflakes, Cornflakes. Cornflakes, Cornflakes, Cornflakes, Cornflakes. Rick : PATHETIC. You'll never win, you know. Vyvyan : Why not? Rick : That's only 9 words. Vyvyan : Oh, yeah. [writing] Vyvyan : Cornflakes.

Can't wait to try this one. so thanks a lot. BTW, I learned about freezing tofu by accident. Being new to tofu & only eating it to substitute for meat for weight loss and to cut back on meat, I bought too much the first time. I put the whole packages of the extra firm in the freezer until ready to use them. I found out that this makes for the best texture for all except silky/soft tofu. I am going to be all over your recipe though because I love crispy textures.

Try the freezing process on the extra soft tofu in a tube or just extra soft tofu. After you freeze and thaw the tofu twice squeeze it gently between two small cutting boards to remove the water. Season with a mix of onion powder vegan chicken seasoning powder black salt a grind of black pepper and a touch of turmeric powder. Heat this up with some vegan butter and enjoy! Makes the best and easiest scrambled tofu ever.
