it's popular not just in Palestine, but in many middle eastern countries, and it's usually quite popular in an islamic month called "Ramadan". Also, this isn't the only way to prepare it, there are multiple other known ways to make it. where I'm from, this is usually called "knafeh nabulsieh" also it is really tasty! it's preferred to eat it when it's still warm so that the cheese doesn't solidify or become clumpy, and stays melted. it's amazing.

Kunefe is a dessert that belongs to Turkey and is based on Turkey. During the Ottoman Empire, the Arabs learned it from the Turks and in the same way, what they call shawarma (çevirme) is actually a Turkish Doner.
