Inspiring! Beautiful work! Novice maker here - I stumbled upon using Tru Oil when I made my first knife... it was all I had on hand from a walnut gun stock I refinished. It is my go to handle finish ever since. I have my first Bowie on the bench now. The guard tips will be useful. Thank you!

Thank you, Billy! I've tried other oils and use several different types on my wood turnings, but Tru Oil works the best for me when finishing knife handles to a high gloss. Guards are tricky and I'm always aspiring to obtain the tightest fit possible.

Beautiful knife! I have found in my history of buying knives, most handles are made for smaller hands. It is very difficult to find a knife with a slightly larger handle to comfortably fit my large hands. I wish knife makers would consider many men have larger hands. Men who buy knives for working usually have larger hands.

Hey Robert! One of the things I ask the customer is how large the hand is on the user. I have average sized hands but prefer a slightly larger handle because I like to move my hand around at different leverage points. Thanks for watching and the compliment on the knife!

Tell me what you think about this handle design. Are any of these processes or tips useful for you?

How do you drill the pin hole after heat treat? I do the wood working part with traditional hand tools, planes, scrapers, sandpaper but a similar process. I just prefer the feel of doing it that way, but I'm a hobbyist, not selling, not in a hurry.

I liked the “Un-Veal” best.

Good looking knife! I am learning a lot. Do you ever use tung oil in a similar way? Thanks!
@TwistedOakHandmade Жыл бұрын
I have tried Tung oil but found Tru-Oil to work the best. Actually any penetrating oil that hardens will work out to a similar finish.

Really nice, How did you do the pin without re- doing handle?
@TwistedOakHandmade2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Bradley! The pin is fit close to length, epoxied, and then slightly peened to tighten it up. I then come back with a Dremel and finish up the heads on each side.
