TRAIN WHEELS
Lego has not made Technic Train wheels unfortunately. The Technic Wheel 2695 is almost perfect EXCEPT for the wheel rim. When the rim is removed the wheel rolls smoothly over the Technic beams. With the rim still attached there will be a rattle sound coming from the wheels going over the holes from the technic beams.
I have made this video how to cut off the rim of wheel in a safe manner. By now I have removed more than 100 wheel rims without issues. I wish there were other wheels suitable. But with the rim removed a whole world of TECHNIC TRAINS will open up!
Welcome To: Lego TECHNIC TRAINS.
I hope you will enjoy the video, and maybe you already have!
There will be a lot more fun videos coming because I just started. If you want to help spread the idea of Technic Trains, like or subscribe! Thank you!
For almost all of my Technic Trains you can find building instructions at the links below.

Don't worry, I have cut, sawed, glued and bent Lego (mostly fake Lego) and I am still alive. Now I really create Lego parts so I am a Lego God, a LeGod! But I only modify Lego if there is really no other way. Only the train wheels and track. I actually still have some nice modification instructions for the brick (City) train track. Not sure if you have brick Lego trains, but the curved track pieces are actually too sharp. That's why there are several non-Lego companies that sell curved track in different radiuses. Before I built Technic Trains, I had a brick train track and I modified the Lego curved track pieces so they are less sharp. And I also modified the straight pieces so they have a slight bend. With the less radius bends you can drive your train so much faster! 2x Horizon Express + 2x Buwizz = FUN

Man you created amazing train system, something that l was dreaming about since l play with technic, until now l didn't believe that there is any sense of building train tracks out of the bricks but you proved that l was wrong. The only thing I don't like is cutting the rim of the lego wheels. How about applying rubber bands instead?

Last year I bought some black 2695 wheels on Aliexpress and the quality was pretty bad. The centre hole was not in the centre so then I built a Lego lathe to shave off the pastic so the hole was in the middle again. Unfortunately it took a long time to fix one wheel.

Here's another solution. Instead of cutting the flange of the wheel off why don't you tape the groove that touches the track over so it is the same diameter as the flange. That way you don't have to cut anything off.
@legotechnictrains8999
@legotechnictrains8999 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea. That could almost work but in practice it will just not work, I think. Before I cut off the rim I tried a lot of rubber bands but the train was still too heavy and the rim would still rattle over the technic holes. If your tape is as hard as plastic and if you fill that space between rim and flange perfectly, it might work in theory. In theory it would be nice to 3D print some rim-wheel fillers that would fit perfectly. It needs to be plastic on plastic, not tape on plastic. Next project will be to 3D print some large Technic Train wheel for a classic old "steam" locomotive. There are many non-Lego companies that sell 3D printed train wheel for brick trains so I should be able to find one. Unfortunately the black 2695 is rare and expensive so I bought black version on Aliexpress. Guess what? The wheel was not completely centred so more an egg shape hahaha. It was only a millimetre difference but that pretty big on a 3cm wheel haha
@michaelbosscha4483
@michaelbosscha4483 2 жыл бұрын
@@legotechnictrains8999 3D printing also has the added benefit of making a smaller flange and adding an axle connector instead of a pinhole, which would remove the need to use the 4185 Belt Wheel and pins as an adapter. It might, however, be a better idea to CNC such a part to be sure the resulting wheel is 100% round.

@@michaelbosscha4483 I really need look into 3D printing wheels but I don't know where to go for a good price. And I need someone who already printed Lego so we talk the same Lego language. For those egg wheels from Aliexpress I actually build a small machine with sandpaper to get those egg wheels perfectly round. It took a long time to grind a wheel till it's round because I had to clean the sandpaper many times because the plastic gets stuck on it. I wanted to let someone 3D print some big steam train wheel but I was too lazy and just sawed the 44772 in half and they are perfect. I guess you have seen them in the last couple videos I made with the Steam Train (PU). If you know someone who can 3D print some Lego wheels, let me know! Thanks! Jij bent ook Nederlander, toch?

@@legotechnictrains8999 Schuldig ;-) The main issue with printed parts is that it's OK for studded pieces, but not so much for round ones. It'd be easier to take a piece of plastic and machining it so that it is perfectly round. Also: it might not be that the shape itself was oval, but that the axle wasn't positioned dead center... I'll have a look around. Because creating custom parts (at least for me) is easy, it's the actual printing that I have little experience in.

In theory everybody has a mother and a father. My father died unfortunately when I was 10 years old so I understand the problem. Some people said to me that I was "the man of the house now" so this means knife privileges I guess (just joking). In case dad is not around, go to the nearest good handy guy. Like I wrote in another comment, this is a typical crazy guy job. If your mother is seriously good with knives, I guess you can ask her. And please make a video!

All the engineering, and fabing a lathe never came up?
@legotechnictrains8999
@legotechnictrains8999 Жыл бұрын
Hi, of course I built a Lego lathe with 2 XL motors, but it did not work unfortunately. I actually used it for the 2695 wheels I bought on Aliexpress that were not exactly centred. So only a little needed to be scrapped off but it took 15 minutes per wheel haha. I did not use a knife but used sanding paper. The main problem was the plastic sticking to the sandpaper so I had to clean the paper a lot. It was a fun experiment but it was just not practical. But a real lathe with knives (used by a professional) would probably work great. I think my neighbours also did not like my Lego lathe because it also made a horrible sound so I was wearing ear protection. My videos have had more than a million views and I've got almost 10k subscribers so maybe I can ask Lego to make some Technic train wheels. But I will probably need to find someone to 3D print train wheels but 3D printing is by far not as smooth as a real Lego piece. Thanks for watching!

Does anyone know why don't the new wheels work?
@legotechnictrains8999
@legotechnictrains8999 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the simple answer is that the new wheel is too wide but there are more dimensions that don't work on a Technic track like mine. In the coming weeks I will make some videos explaining how my track, switch point and trains work. I hope I remember to show why the new wheel does not work. Especially on the switch points they really don't work. But if you only want to make something roll on a straight track the new wheel should work. My track is 9 studs wide but with the new wheel it might be better to use 10 studs wide or 11 studs wide track. Someone has 3D printed some technic train wheels for me and they work pretty good but still need some improvements. So maybe I can offer a cheap technic train wheel in the future.

My Technic Trains are more built from separate pieces that Lego does itself. For the Lego City Trains there are so many short cuts they take. Lego just prints complete big parts assemblies to make it easy for them. You buy a complete Track Switch Point from Lego but my Technic Switch Point contains 400 pieces! The Lego Train motor is just 1 big piece with a motor inside but I make the same from 100 parts. I am more Lego than Lego, don't worry!
