I love Catherine's book... it provides wonderful information. But sometimes seeing how it is done make things easier to understand. 1-2% is recommended for eo's + fo's but you should always check with your fragrance supplier.

Oh, and do you have any written directions of this recipe that I could print out?

I tried your recipe for liquid Castile soap and it worked the first time! Thank you so much. However, could you please confirm the measure of the KOH is dry or liquid? I measured in a measuring cup and it is considerably more than weighing on a scale. Thanks!

Hello. First of all let me say this has been so very helpful. I wanted to ask after the soap is finished can butters,essential oils ect be added to this? Is there a book that you can recommend for soap making that also covers making shampoo bars?
@soaping10112 жыл бұрын
Is the base of your stick blender plastic? The heat from the glycerin will certainly melt plastic so metal is preferred.

I just finished preparing it. Wonderful! Dilution water I added the sodium citrate. Thank you ... you're a witch soap!

Another great video! I love them! I was already trying liquid castile soap, bit it wasn't working, as I wanted to, so I'll defintively try your receipe. Just a question: as you're using Water, isn't a preservation nedded? Best regards, Margarete

HELP. I used a standard CP soap recipe with Coconut, Palm, Olive oil etc the end result is there is absolutely no lather. I actually welcome low sudsing but no sudsing just doesn't feel right. Is this normal? is there anything I can do to fix it? I did run it thru the lye calculator Thanks

Hi Rene and Debby, Let me know what to do about any "Ruckus" in the classroom...and Debby, do I need to get more duct tape while Teach is on Holiday?

Hi teach, I have a question in relation to adding alcohol to these glycerine bases. In the list of ingredients for the ready done melt and pour soap bases, I've seen ingredients such as sorbitol in the list. What is the purpose of adding alcohol, or sugar alcohol in the case of the sorbitol? Because I've noticed that you did not put any such ingredient in your mixture.

I could not find the calculator with glycerin; could you tell which did you use, or how to figure out how many of KOH we need in our recipe? And do we have to use glycerin in a liquid soap? I’ll be grateful for a hint :)
@hooker22311 жыл бұрын
KOH is Potassium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necesary to make liquid soap. NaOH Is Sodium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necessary to make Bar soap.
@macystarie6728 Жыл бұрын
Did I miss the amount of glycerin you had added to the KOH? Would love to try this!!! Can’t wait!

When you purchase a cookbook, in essence you are purchasing the right to use the recipes. However, when an 'artist' posts a video they are the owner to its rights. KZbin is simply the vehicle in which they use to freely promote it. So when the work is copied {either blatantly or implied}, the artist + his/her work has been compromised. All of the recipes + techniques that I post on Soaping101 are free to use for personal use but not for profit. Hope I was helpful in my explanation :)

When I was still in KS I was sooo sure I was going to love Dr. B Peppermint Castile soap that I order a ginormous jug of it on Amazon. To me, it smelled like the disinfectant that the janitor used to clean the floors with in grade school. I couldn't abide the smell. Yuck.. I donated it with the big pump to an animal rescue. Great for shampooing the rescues but not for me.

This is the best tutorial on liquid soap I have found. The calculator I use has this recipe at a 4% discount. Is that correct or close? I am working on a recipe that uses Argan Oil in place of some of the olive. What are your thoughts on that?

Thats brilliant teach! I've made it this way once before and it tuned out great. Its lovely to see you do it as I couldn't find much info about this method at the time. Thanks and enjoy your cruise! Emma.

I would try a small test to see if the oils and the soap will emulsify. If they won't emulsify you might try adding some Polysorbate 80 or 60, although I'm not sure if that would be needed. Just experiment... It's how we learn.

Glycerin soap is the only way I make my liquid soap now, I love it. Esp for laundry soap. I don't cook mine though, once I see bubbles I cover it and let it sit till the next day then dilute. I've never seen it get that thick though at trace,must be my ingredients. Have a nice vacation!

Hi new subbie here. Also very new to soap making ( haven't made any yet, just learning). So the comment about not copying puzzles me. When I buy a cookbook, I copy the recipe a few times till I feel comfortable to tweak it. Or are you talking about making $ off someone else's recipe?

Will do Rene! I will get some more duct tape and yes, we have to warn the newbies about the uprisings that occur in class! We have a hurricane to deal with in the states at the moment, I have time to get that duct tape and put some precautions in place so nothing can harm Teach's property. No sightings as of yet. Debby must be" Hunkering" down for the storm!!! LOL

Hi Hope your cruise was amazing. Wondering if you could do a tut on liquid dish soap. I have tried a YT recipe but it was a total flop. I'm guessing it's similar to this Castille but just dont know & dont want to waste any more time/ingreds on another flop.

Sweet video Teach. I really enjoyed this, by the way, I am dressed and ready for class. Unlike some of our jammie wearing students in the class. Oh and he still has not shaved, should you send him a bar of shaving soap and have him video the process when he does shave?? Have a great vacation and take lots of photos to share with us. Hugs and have fun!!!

Hi Cynthia, more duck tape is a good idea, you know Debby, she goes through that stuff a mile a minute!! Phil is keeping his head down at the moment and this is worrying because you just know he's planning something. Have you noticed that we have gained a lot of new class mates recently, we have to warn them about the antics that Phil gets up to. Let me know if you see him. Luv, Rene x

I have a question. I am also coming ingredients that state you need to neutralize your soap afterwards either using citric acid or borax. Is this the case for your instructions? Why would these items be needed anyway?

I want to make this one but i'm a bit scared. I am building my confidence and will get it made. I went to a class in CA when I was out there for a class for my HRO job, but I will be honest I didn't learn as much from the somewhat hands on there as i have here on the web with you .
