Hawaii is blessed with so many peoples from different countries and cultures. Yes, their “island” versions of certain foods may not be as “authentic” as those from their original countries, but there really is no right or wrong way as long as everyone is happy with the results and enjoy the foods. If only the whole world could be as inclusive as Hawaii with their foods and people! God Bless!

Thank you cacritic. Chinese call spring rolls very similar to lumpia. It is what it is. Even Filipinos have different versions. This recipe is from a native Filipino, do don't knock it. Just make your own and be happy.

@@HawaiisPickleLady Agreed. I grew up in one of the largest Filipino communities in the country. Over the course of about 50 years I have eaten thousands of lumpia made by many families & restaurants. They are a staple at every gathering including work potlucks. What I discovered many years ago is that every friend, co-worker, restaurant has their own recipe & technique of making lumpia. There are a few standard ingredients that most lumpia have but like recipes from other cultures every family, etc. has their own personal preferences, likes & dislikes hence the differences. Different meat, spices, sauces, some of this & some of that. None of this & none of that. Some use packets of seasoning, some use msg. Some use eggs to bind the ingredients and some don't. Some cook the ingredients first & some don't. Does every family have the same recipe for any dish? No, most people tweak their recipes. I even notice this from watching videos of people making lumpia in the Philippines. You go girl, make them the way your family & friends love them. For anybody that says they aren't authentic (even though they know nothing), my response is "Good, it leaves more for the rest of us". lol.
