Yes, quite straight forward. 2NaHCO3 + heat ---> H2 + NaCO3 (hydrogen gas and soda). Result is soda diluted in water which is quite alkaline.

Baking soda or soda bicarbonate is for food only when you dissolve remain the temperature not like caustic soda burning skin
