Flashy lights, @5:25 to @9:30. May want to consider using a different light for camera work. To get your magnetic standoffs to hold a little weight, add a piece of1" PVC pipe with a cap (or whatever fits your standoffs) to the base washer. Sand the rounded end flat, put your washer in the bottom with some hot glue. Sanding the rounded end will probably leave a hole in the middle, which is perfect, but should leave plenty of thickness around the edge to support the washer. You may want to cut the length down a bit so it doesn't stand out so far. Even an eighth of an inch lip will hold as much weight as you'll probably need for light props (within reason!). If you think wind might be a problem, leave it as deep as possible - or at least longer than the diameter. This should cause the standoff to jam against the sides of the pipe if the wind yanks one side. It won't help in sustained, heavy wind, but gusts should leave everything intact. If you live in Chicago (IL), Wichita (KS), or similar high-wind areas, you may want to consider lag bolts instead of magnets! 😃

Very well done. Just starting the venture in to pixels and this might be the way to mount to the side of the house. Still working on plan then boss approvial.

I would like to win these magnetic mounts. This is the first year of my family trying pixels. This project will solve two problems. The first is placing snowflakes on the 2nd story. The second is storage. I will put washers in the garage ceiling and attach coro props to the ceiling. Great project! Keep the videos coming.

also have metal strips on our garage ceiling and plan on doing the same thing.

Hi, just wondering if you could give an update on how they stood up for the season, anything you might do differently?
@CounterHolidayLights2 жыл бұрын
John, we had zero issue with them last season both the ones we made and the Mattos ones you can buy everything we used them on staid in place including our icicles ( we had magnets every foot on them )

Great vedio But why not just screw the magnate to the wood ?
@CounterHolidayLights3 жыл бұрын
you could also just screw the stand of to the house note even use magnets. the point of the magnets is to not have anything permit ly attached to the house except the small washers if you are mounting to a non metal surface.

Nice video, thanks. Question about the standoffs. Amazon doesn’t have these standoffs that you suggested, do you recommend any substitutes? Thanks

Would you use these for your long horizontal lines across the house? How much space between mounts? Would pvc be too heavy to use? Thanks. Great video.
@CounterHolidayLights3 жыл бұрын
I use these for all of my horizonal and vertical lines as well as Gilbert engendering Icicles, the spacing is about 3 feet apart. I use t he Gilbert Engineering HD Trim so there is no need for PVC. as for the icicles all my pieces are 5 feet in length with PVC backers and I use two magnetic mounts on each one.

Would the standoffs mount into a 1/2 inch pvc pipe?
@CounterHolidayLights3 жыл бұрын
there is only room for about 6 to 8 MM of material when you screw on the cap. so you would need to create something that would attached to PVC to attaché the mount. like emt clips or something similar

Great video and thank you so much for the details - it's my first big season and there's so much of a gap with once you receive the props to how the heck are you going to mount them the best way. I appreciate your detail along with showing where you purchased. If you had to do this again, would you modify your order any from what you know now?
@CounterHolidayLights3 жыл бұрын
we are happy that you are finding these helpful. on this build video the only thing I would do is find some bigger washers for more grab space. trying to source them now.
