If you guys still facing problems and not getting proper drawings try applying the following. 1. While creating gcode in inkscape take a 80mmx80mm draw area and put you picture at the top-right quadrant. 2. Still if the drawing is not proper, the cause can be inadequate torque due to microstepping. Change the motor mode to Interleave (which will also give you neat drawings) to get much better torque and the drawing would be fine. 3. While using Interleave mode try reducing the motor speed, so jitters (that might occur while drawing curves) would be minimum. These three changes made my pictures very very neat.

for people who are getting scribbling like drawings from DVD step-motor CNC plotter machine, i give you correct and proven changes for proper out put, try it and get corrected! (01) most people with "baby scribbling drawing output"due to low Watt power supply(less than 10W) SO give 5V 2Amp power supply - your cnc need (@least 10W power input) ,if not this will correct try with 12V, 1Amp power supply but this will heat up your DVD step-motors and 3 ICs of L293D so use fan to heat loss in 12v power supply. IF STILL SCRIBBLING DO CHANGES GIVEN BELLOW these changes should be done in Arduino CODES you upload to your CNC (02) StepMilimeterMax - for each 1cm of your maximum length or width of drawing area this value should be multiplied by 25, my cnc drawing area is 5cm X 5cm square shaped area, so my StepMilimeterMax is 5cm x25 =125 (every one who made CNC with normal DVD step-motors has nearly 5cm x 5cm area,so StepMilimeterMax =125) if StepMilimeterMax is 125 output is BIG pictures and letters WITH OVER FLOWING EDGES FROM 5cmx5cm (03) these factors given bellow should be in given values for 5cmx5cm drawing area (a) Line buffer -should be 512 ( if >512 effect is #) (b) XSetSpeed & YSetSpeed -should be 200 (if >200 effect is #) (c) Char Buffer -should be 64 (if >64 effect is #) #- unusual Hum and vibration from your DVD step-motors. (04) Line Delay - should be 50 if this is 0 - left half of your picture/text write on whole 5cm x5cm area and right half is over write on same 5cm x 5cm area if this is 50 - no OVER LAPPING (05) pen servo Delay- should be 100 if >100 - at the point of same text or picture section write by your CNC more than once, second and next writings are not write on first writing so this make "BLUR EFFECT" CORRECT YOUR ARDUINO CODES ACCORDING TO ERROR TYPE GIVEN ABOVE AND GET SUCCEEDED AND WRITE YOUR COMMENTS!

people with not succeeded , try these tips they will end up with success for you (01) if some errors coming after few attempts of code uploading to arduino, - disconnect arduino from pc ,restart pc and connect back,select port and board,then 1st try blink program then your codes, its always error free if you upload codes to arduino without connecting L239D + servos and step-motors,after code upload connect all as picture (02) check step motor with diode test mode of multi-meter for good connection of both phases separately.then for Ohms value of each phase (should be near 10 Ohms ) (03) check proper connectivity between step-motors and L293D, POWER SUPPLY, servo motor and L239D with multi-meter (04) now you have essentially check step-motors (X &Y) with step_motor test for both x & y axis separately, if only this shows back and froth movement you can proceed (05) those who getting scribbling like drawings "no desired out put"-more commonly lack of power supply- always give 5V, 2Amps (not any other)external power supply via L239D motor shield, if still your problem is there check 4 ends of wire connecting pattern from your step-motors to L239D if still problem there change your arduino codes for following places given bellow XflatMax & YflatMax - 150, change it to 100 smooth out put will give if we slow down the pen speed @ XsetSpeed & YsetSpeed -10000 change it to 200 give your comments with us,good luck!

If I connect 5v supply to motor shield stepper doesn't move in jog mode...but if I connect 12v and that jumper removed... stepper get heat ..,I feel that it will burn...what should I do...how much voltage is sufficient? ,And I feel tha the travel of x and y stepper are not that like yours in ..plz reply..

for whom the image is coming only a single line please check whether image or letter is in right side top of the inkspace if it is in centre of the inkspace document then it will not print exactly if it is in the right side of the document only it will print

Mr.innovative, I hv selected com port very correctly.my com port is "com 7". On this port only all software is up loaded.secondly First I had powered motor board by 5v-1amp power supply..there was no action. if finally finisihed, just took some troubleshooting before i got it, power supply from usb is not enough to power the motors, it must be powered by external supply, mine was 5V, 2A, an old PSP charger...

I built my own CNC and prepare every thing but at the last step with processing the problem appear. when i run the program it gives me this message (Could not parse -1 for --display) but i cotinuo and press P button and do add a G-code file after that the programe start to work in the console (lower black box ) until to finish but there is any move on the motor . what's the wrong?? thanks.. note: i tested every motor and they run well .

I am afraid there is a mistake in the code, the function drawline uses the bresenham algorithm and the "over" variable is not initiated as dx/2 or dy/2 but it is an awsome coding! thx

I am having a problem with running my dvd stepper. I am directly supplying power through Arduino to L293d motor driver then to stepper through a single usb port. The stepper creates very small sound when connected with Arduino and l293d but the lead screw is not rotating. Is it happening because of low current or what?

Hi thanks gor the great explanation! I did tge exact steps and now i have 2 questions! My printing size is 30mm W X 40 mm H how to adjust the printing size in GTRL , also how to set zero point on the table ?! Where the pen should be when the machine started ?! Thanks and I appreciate your help

You no need to do any thing in GTRL , set the page size in Inkscape from document and properties option

I've found two DVD players with stepper motors, when i check the stroke of the steppers i get 40mm each. This would mean the drawing would only be 40 x 40mm but your drawings seem bigger than that! Am I doing something wrong?

I have a cd drive that uses two spindle motors, not a stepper motor. Will I be able to work with this?

I hv test run stepper motor on M3andM4,it ran ok.now to run 2stepper motor on x and y axis which software to load and where to load for test run of both stepper together?u know I am a begginer

test run will run only single stepper motor to test both axis first you have to connect both axis with shield then load CNC code to arduino and load any sample gcode

Mr. Innovative i am unable to transfer gcode from processing to arduino. The processing bottom window shows red color messages. I am unable to select port also. It says port null and have no option to select the port. Help.

Thank u sir... I got success and it's all coz of u... Sir just I have one doubt... suppose if we are plotting some cartoon did u observed ? it's not filling the areas which need to filled (I.e eyes or hairs) it's just plotting the outlines.. what we must do in the ink space software such that it can also fill in the portion.

sir, i m getting the problem as when i run the gcode file the stepper motors doesnt perform any operation just vibrates but the servo motor that lifts the pen it works.i copied the same arduino CNCcodebut its not working but when i test the servo motors by STEPPERTESTcode both the motors performs according to the code but only when i connect both wirings of motors on M3 and M4 ports they work seamlessly so there is no prob with both motors. if u can give me a resolution to this problem i could successfully present it in my project display on 24/04/2017. please help
