Thank you for this video. Thank you for honoring God. I have been self employed my whole life, started knocking on doors when i was young asking what can i do for you to get paid. Did my military time. Got a J.O.B. and started knocking on doors again. Started a home improvement company. Pretty much retired now I still work 6 - 10 days a month. I have been wanting to start a wood shop business. Thank you for reminding me to put the work in and always honor God. Again thank you.

As someone without faith, I really respect the way you go about presenting yours. If I were inclined to seek it out, it's available to me in a simple manner, but (and respectfully) I'm not inclined to want to know about your faith mission, yet I can happily watch your vlogs without feeling like it's being pushed onto me, this gain all the other information you present.

Even this video is older it popped up on my feed today and just wanted to say love your stuff man you’re doing a great job! Proud of you and your witness! We are brothers in Christ! I do have 2 questions from the biz lens… 1. What do you think of voice over diy videos vs what you typically do? Is one more effective? 2. Have you set yourself up as an LLC or legit business per se? Should we? Thx again for who you are and what you do!

Also do not forget about the Budget for tools etc. I may of missed it but 731 was gifted many of the tools, including the top line tools, or finance to buy the tools {think someone gave him the funds to buy his saw stop, I may be wrong though}. Nothing wrong in that, but it has to be taken into consideration.

I've been watching your videos for about a month now, and like everyone else find your perspective and insights super helpful. It was also interesting to hear you (briefly!) address your faith and mission, which I really appreciated. I don't happen share that faith (or all the same views regarding policing in our country), but I can 110% respect how your faith gives you strength and purpose, and that when you see hardworking people that love and care for your community, you want to recognize and honor them. It's never pushy, vain, or holier-than-thou, it's just there to remind people to actually think about their perspectives and that they have the same options in life that you do. It's refreshing, and I wish more people could take that route, because it builds mutual understanding and respect rather than tearing those things down. And then of course there's the generosity of your time in making these videos and sharing your knowledge. Obviously that humility and altruism is paying off, but I get the sense you'd do the same even if it didn't, so thank you, sincerely.

So I work with a girl that does wood working on the side like I do and when we talk about price she always sings me the same song " it costs so much because it takes me fing hours..." Pardon the language but her words and I agree. If it was easy, everyone would do it. We invest a significant amount of time in ourselves to hone our skills. That doesn't count the insane amount of money we spend on tools etc.

Good day, brother. This is the very first time I have subscribed or commented on KZbin. I am a saved man who is against all of Satans devices (2Cor.2:11.) I have received help from your videos, and I wanted to thank you. I have had been owner and operator of Alternate Route Construction for twenty-three years. I am desiring to stream line my business into finish carpentry and woodworking, as I enjoy the work. Now that I am 50 I would like to focus on what I enjoy if it be the Lords will. Here is the exhortation, brother. Get in your Bible and give attendance to reading (1Tim.4:13). And do not neglect studying the Word of God (2Tim.2:15.) I hope and pray that this message came through with the right spirit. Thank you again, Darren Maynes Alternate Route Construction Smyrna, De. / Manchester, Ct.

Fear of failure, worries about income, stressing if your product(s) will sell, finding customers, etc etc are all worries for anyone wanting to switch from Employed to Self-employed and are the reason so many never make that move. But those that do make the jump, very, very rarely go back into employment. Sometimes in life, we just gotta stop fearing the "What if's" and focus on the "I'm going to......."!!

The shirts are pretty cool, but everyone knows we're here for the beard! I've been trying to rebuild my woodworking business and the area I moved to is a huge culture shock. If they can't hold it in their hands and haggle for their deal, they don't really want it. It doesn't help that the few woodworkers around here price things so cheap there's no way they're making money. Those stove covers you show go for about 30-40 bucks which is insane.

Having a stock of materials, especially given what happened with prices over the past few years, would have been a solid investment. Guess what I didn’t invest in? Pardon my double post here Mr. 731.. As you know, I'm trying to get my business up and running. Been doing different builds, techniques, methods, designs etc. I seem to have a problem. I can't seem to just whip something out, be it in a few hours, few days or a week. I'm currently building an Entryway Table/Sofa table. It was ""supposed"" to be a "simple" Farmhouse style, similar to your design. But then I get carried away and now it's an Entryway Table, made from birdseye PINE (yes, I said PINE). It's going to have a floating table top design and floating bottom shelf. Tapered feet. French curves on aprons and I'm incorporating wrought iron stair rails that have a twisted metal and bird cage balls as the legs. And I'm toying with the idea of doing inlays in the top apron out of Walnut. THATS my problem. Every single time I try to do something "simple", I end up turning it into a 2 week project. How can I overcome this problem Mr. 731? It's frustrating me but it's like an addiction.
@731Woodworks2 жыл бұрын
Either charge more for bigger items or find smaller items you can make faster.
@Tool_Addicted_Carpenter2 жыл бұрын
Charge accordingly. My girlfriend is an artist and she has this issue. I simply told her to keep track of her hours and price it based on what she wants to make hourly. Just make sure whatever you're building, at the very minimum, properly scales with whatever hourly rate you want to make. You obviously can't spend 80 hours building something you're going to sell for $400. $5/hr doesn't put food on the table.
@Mike-ou5ps2 жыл бұрын
@@Tool_Addicted_Carpenter Thanks Mr. 731 and Thanks Mr. T.A.C. This particular "prototype" I've been working on for 7 days now. It's my first of this type of build. I'm well into 50 hours I'm sure, but that's including the sketch, then blueprint (8 pages) as well as "to scale" paper templates which then I made 1/4" ply templates so I can make other tables. I guess I'll have to make a 2nd table and time myself on THAT build to see how long it takes to build.
