Hi I'm Nicaraguan. This is other way to cook Nacatamal.You can find banana leaves and achiote in Hispanic supermarket or Amazon Yes Nacatamales lo comemos con pan( we call pan frances)

Hi, thanks! When we made nacatamales for this video it was last minute so we didn't have time to order online and there was no hispanic supermarket anywhere nearby. Now we live in a bigger city and have access to those things :)

And one last tip ,always add banana leaves before the foil when wrapping it ,it gives it a better more natural flavors

Sí! Solo recomiendo hacer poco masa xq se pone muy muy difícil mezclar jaja no pude mezclar la masa yo para cocinarla 😆

Excellent vídeo! The Nacatamales looked great... understandably the banana leaves are ideal but one manages to make it work with what's available. FYI, Whole Foods has achiote ✌🏻🤠

Hi! You should be able to find lard in any grocery store. I use it in my pie crust. Also I have found frozen banana leaves at a local Asian market. I would love to see you guys do this again! ❤️

@@DarzRojas yes it is usually in the hispanic food section. The brand I usually buy comes in a green and white container and the brand is called Armour. ❤️

I prefer nacatamales with tortillas I like grabbing some of the meat and masa with the tortilla while the bread you just take a bite out of it while you eat and coffee is also another must have for nacatamales

My parents are from Managua and we eat nacatamale with bread. Achote is hard to find where I live too and we live in northern California.

Tip: Achiote is usually in boxes in the foreign food isle where they put the Goya products. Walmart, Bravo Supermarkets, Giant, Whole Foods, Price Right- all sell Goya products in PA and that includes those boxes of achiote packets. Hope this helps.

Congratulations, it’s a hard work to make nacatamales. You did it well. Try to find pork lard instead of butter. I think you missed white bacon.

Thanks! Yes, we would've used lard but we decided kind of spur of the moment to make these and didn't really have a chance to figure out where to find it.

Ok, I see you trying to compromise. “Midwest” Yikes! And I thought I lived in a white state. Oregon to be exact. Ok,so I’ve made them before. Did a few things different. 1st I use Manteca de puerco LARD”We have Mexican stores here and that’s usually where i pick it up. 2nd I add naranja agria to my masa. Other than that you pretty much almost nailed it !!! Aplausos 👏 one last thing pan is always a nacatamal best friend ❤️

Lol. Ooh I haven't heard of putting naranja agria in the masa! Seems like it would add a great flavor. We'll have to do that next time. We live in TX now so we have an awesome Mexican supermarket where we can get all the proper ingredients 😄

I imagine masa probably is like making bread. Sometimes you need more water with bread depending on humidity and such. Maybe that's why you needed more butter? Also, how did you know to put more butter?

No vinagre se le pone naranja agria si no encuentras la fruta comprala envasada como viene el chile o el vinagre también hay naranja agria no vi que le echaras manteca o aceite. Para ser americana lo hicistes bien lastima que no le pusieras hoja de platano y achiote. Te felicito
