I ended up here because someone on Kirstie's Handmade Christmas made a decoration out of these today. I've never heard of these before but it's look like a fun craft. In tatting we cover rings making a double stitch, so a little different, but I was thinking you could use a tatting shuttle for the larger rings here, as the shuttle holds a few yards of thread, and you would be able to do the outside without having to add and knot more thread.
