Nice box. If you really want to make the inlays pop, miter them prior to installing. Did you use hinges for the lid? If not, how did you finish off mounting the lid? Maybe a short follow up vid with the finished box? Thanks!

How did you manage to get wood grains to mimic a distant mountain range while foreground resembled a rocky desert scene? Masterful! Back in the 60s Jeanette Erickson (married name) and I (intern from C-bus Business Univ. through Ballou Employment Agency) worked for Ms. Fanny Short. Mrs. Erickson was a taller-than-I-was curly blonde, blue-eyed co-worker full time, intelligent, friendly, kind and not afraid of the demanding, sometimes harsh Ms. Short. I was 18, Mrs. Erickson prolly early to mid- twenties. Do you know her? Long shot but she was from Hibbing, MN. 😊

Nice work, the only thing that got me though was how sloppy the glue was, even after wiping it with a wet rag and sanding the glue that soaked into the grain of the walnut has to stand out and leave glue stains when finish is applied. I was really hoping to see it finished.

Great work. What are you brushing on the inlays before sanding? Is it super glue?

That is sanding sealer. I use it to protect and fill in little defects in the Veener. Also, helps with bleed through for the base wood. Thanks for watching!

How did you deal with the excess glue on the inside corners of the box?

I usually tape the inside corners to help with glue clean-up. This was a prototype box for myself, so I ended up just using my chisel and a little bit of sanding. There was some discoloration left over as I didn't get all of it, but it was for me, and I didn't mind. Taping the corners is the go-to method though. Cheers!

Lenny, I cut down the middle to open the box up as I ended up doing a friction to open and close the lid. The box is made to house a cribbage board. Cheers!

What's the reason for the seal coat remaining wet while sanding, is it for a filler.

That is the trick to get seamless joints in wood. Most use glue with sawdust mixed, but once dried, you can see the difference in shade and color within the seams. Using sanding sealer pushes the sawdust in and sets it without discoloration. A very effective and fast way to fix small imperfections.
