This is such a timely video as I got my first Philodendron micans over the weekend. It has long internodes so when I get it home I'll be chopping and propping. I also got a Scindapsus (I watched your video) that only has three leaves and I'm scared. These types of videos are awesome Harli and because of you, I'm better able to take care of them. Thanks for sharing Harli.

@@dclarkmcdonald I just cut up my PPP into 6-7 cuttings and it's rooting rather quickly. I used a little rooting hormone so it may have helped. I cut them, dabbed the end in rooting powder, let them sit for a few hours, then placed in water. I noticed I need to change the water a little more often compared to my pothos cuttings.

Hi Harli, thank you. I find that regardless of the topic or the specific plant you’re teaching us about, I’m always learning something new. I have a question today and I’d like your opinion or any of your subscribers feedback. While I have several plants indoors, I keep most outside until it gets cold (I’m in NE Florida). I have more outside than inside because it drives me nuts to see the dirt in the pot inside my house🤷♀️. I realize that’s kinda crazy being a plant lover. I was thinking of adding some vining plants around the sides of my planters p, where I can see the dirt. Is there any problem with that? Are there plants that typically don’t grow well with other plants? Currently I’ve just been adding rocks to hide the dirt but I think I’m killing a few. It seems like they retain moisture longer than they should. Anyways……can I grow multiple plants in the same container if they have the basic needs such as lighting, watering schedule, etc? Thanks, Robin

Ugh, I wonder if that's what i did to my Brazil, i tried to prop a while ago and am getting zero new growth on the plant where I cut. And all new growth coming in on untried ones has leaves literally only the size of a dime. Why the small leaves? It has been a good grower in the past, I haven't changed light or watering habits. I need normal size leaves again! Help, please! Loved this video!

Just put 5 nodes in water and 1 back in the soil either the mother planet to see which one works better. 🤞🏻Hopefully it works and I didn’t just waste 6 perfect good leaves and half a vine
@writegirl29372 жыл бұрын
For some reason, when I put even rooted cuttings back into the mother plant, they usually rot. I don’t know how to fix that issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Harli? Thank you!😊🪴🪴🪴🪴
@HarliG2 жыл бұрын
You could always try a more airy potting mix! I’ll talk about it in an upcoming video, but root rot happens when the bacteria in the soil competes with the plant roots for the oxygen in the air pockets. Larger air pockets=less competition bc there’s more oxygen to go around
@writegirl29372 жыл бұрын
@@HarliG Hmmmm…..I will add more pumice and/or perlite next time, but I was thinking that since the mother plant was doing fine, then the rooted cuttings would do well if I put them back into the mother plant I took them from. (Usually, I root them in water and then transition them into a smaller pot of soil for a few weeks first before putting them back with the mother plant. But obviously, I am still done something wrong. But I am not giving up trying to make my plants fuller. It’s been quite the learning curve figuring out how airy my mixes should be.🤣 Looking forward to your next video, as well! Thanks, Harli!🪴😊
@HarliG2 жыл бұрын
The mother plant likely has a larger root system that has the ability to pull from more pockets than the smaller root system. Water roots also have a waxy coating on them whereas substrate roots don’t so it changes the way they are able to absorb the oxygen & water
@writegirl29372 жыл бұрын
@@HarliG Hmmm….I did. It know that but it makes sense!😊 Right now, I have some cuttings rooting in perlite (in uncovered pots) because many of my cuttings rot in plastic closed perlite prop boxes). Going to see if that helps. Thanks so much, Harli!🪴🪴🪴
