So true. Photographers are mostly grateful to have you take over for a minute so they can decompress. Also, yes having a quick word with the couple is a great way to bypass a photographer who won't let you do your thing. Another excellent video!

This is really valuable advice! Thanks so much for sharing, David. Great reminder that photographers very often do not work with a videographer at all weddings.

I LOVE working with photographers. But other than the ceremony, it's the first look that I have to communicate the most with the photographer. In the past, the photographer would sometimes talk during the first look, like this, "place your hand there and turn this way... ok, can you turn this way and smile at me? Beautiful! Ok, let's go over here and take more photos..." which totally interrupts the audio and the moment I wanted to capture. :/ So now I always make sure the photographer and I are on the same page. So video and photo stay quiet and let the couple to have their sweet moment and tell us when they are ready for a photo session. This way I get clean audio and uninterrupted emotion from the couple. :)

Loved that you guys shared advice on this topic. One time an *experienced* photographer referred to me as "video girl" and started directed ME during the couples' portraits... haha!! After 2 years of shooting, I can honestly say that was the only bad experience I've had... Generally speaking, photographers are willing to work cohesively if you just show them respect and be mindful. I've made some great photographer friends along the way, that have actually hooked me up with weddings!

Really great stuff here! I've done a few of these by reaching out on the earlier side and introducing myself at the beginning of the day, but the subtleties you mention are really great nuggets to take along!

Great video!! I try to reach out to videographers before too to discuss how they work and how we can work well together! It makes a huge difference to touch base prior

Would love to know what that 30 day out questionnaire looks like? Combing through your videos right now and I'm really appreciating what you have to say, thank you. I'm flying out from Fl to shoot at Saddlerock which I see you've done a few weddings there. Using those for some inspo!

How much is a video like the short clips you post on your Instagram page? Do you have a rough estimate. I love your work. I’m referring to the short clips one not the ones over 3 mins. And do those short clips come with you taking photos as well?

I do all these things consistently for years. It get's exhausting sometimes. And I can't tell you how many times I've done the polite "may i grab a couple shots real quick before we change after your done?" only to have them continuously railroad me all day anyway, causing me to have to feel like a "3rd wheel" In short these tips are necessary but don't expect every photographer to even notice you exist despite your attempts, even when it's "going well"

Very true sometimes you can do all the right things and still run into a struggle.

My experience with one was so bad it gave me terrible nightmares. They were so good at BLOCKING all the shots. I literally had to go into the space before they got thre and stand there like an idiot, then ask them if I can spend a few minutes to shoot some video. The problem was the photographer got to the couple and made the situation ten times worse. It is so sad when that happens. I do not match the crappy behaviour. But it is the worst because every wedding they are at the same thing happens. I try so hard to be polite. Thanks for this. I know 5 lovely photographers. So, there is that.

Every wedding I do is with an in-house photographer, so it's always a breeze.
