Stockholm tar is what I made my soap with. The shot at Tractor Supply was simply a demonstration to show where pine tar is located in the store. Many farm stores carry creosote free pine tar and I mentioned in the video that this was the one to look for if using the pine tar for soap making.

Your videos are far the best out there in you tube land. You explain and demonstrate every step in such a simple way and you don't throw out so much information as to confuse a person. I am so grateful to have found you since I have seen so many videos but I just got more confused with each one of them. My new favorite you tube channel.

If you moisten your spoon with a little olive oil while smoothing out the top, it would not stick to your spoon.

Made this last week. Worried about that rapid set, I just whisked like crazy with a hand whisk and poured into mould. By the time I finished the pour (3-4 seconds) it has started to set, and look grainy. Left overnight and next day had (and still have) an oily tar slick on top! Note to self: DO stick blend, fear not about possible seizure, it can always be dolloped!! Off for a re-batch as its not going to get better by itself! Thank you so much for recipe and tutorial - Loving this site!

I have been a psoriasis sufferer for over forty years and I have found around 2% salicylic acid works well with pine tar or coal tar in soaps, ointments and shampoos. I bought my acid off ebay so I had to grind the crystals into a powder myself but I notice that the 100g of Salicylic Acid from Amazon is already powdered. As well as relieving itching it also removes loose skin particles so I would consider giving it a try.

could you heat the soap mixture before pouring into the mold to help reduce air bubbles/ make a smoother bar? or would that denature some of the properties of the oils or pine tar?

psoriasis is an autoimmune issue not to be taken lightly. had your hubby seen a dr lately for it? there are always new and better meds for it all the time to help improve symptoms. unfortunately there's no cure but at least there's ways to improve the itching and irritation. the soap is one of them! good luck to your hubby.

My dad had it so bad that there was hardly any skin left on him that was not bleeding. He used ponds cold cream and sun and salt water. I know it is harsh, but he only had it on his legs, because he used to always wear long pants, even in summer. He was part native American, I think skin issues are common after the old ways were forgotten.

@iwannaapple7190
@iwannaapple7190 2 жыл бұрын
Her loaf weight doesnt matter when your dealing with percent. You could have a 10 pound mold and all you need is those percentages. You just have to calculate how much your mold holds in oil. To do that: i think an easy way to do it is W x H x .42. That will give you the most OIL you can use in your mold. The water, lye and fragrance dont worry about. It will fit. Than take the oil amount and multiply by each oils %. That gives you the amount for each of your oils in your mold. Or, once you have tbe total amount of oil for your mold, plug the % intoa lye calculator and it willgive you the amounts of each.
@iwannaapple7190
@iwannaapple7190 2 жыл бұрын
@@grant242 The extra 3% can be considered superfat. Although its not too helpful in calculating amount for your mold unless you have a custom lye calculator like i have. But what i posted is correct. I made a calculator and i can figure percentages with it pretty fast.

Ok I'm back because I really want to try this, as my husband likes pine tar soap. You failed to mention a quantity or even identify the essential oils used. For a masculine appeal, I'd use tea tree oil with a hint of Rosemary. This conundrum is like telling someone to bake a chocolate cake and make sure not to forget the vanilla, without saying how much vanilla to use.

I know this is a really old video, but it showed up in my feed… Question: looking at the recipe you showed, the oil percentages seem way off…or am I reading it wrong? Those numbers don’t add up to 100%, but rather a weird number over 220% Also, is it possible that it thickened so quickly because of the chosen oils rather than pine tar issues?? I’ve seen more recent videos where soap makers have managed to keep the batter at a light trace long enough to pour it in the mold.
