Give them a coat of metal paint to brighten them up and make them last longer.
Some gravel in the bottom to help drainage.
Optionally line with weed proof membrane to keep soil off the metal and help drainage.
Any available compost.
Use bulbs to get a display year on year or plant with annuals or a mix of both.
