Hey Ray, one of your old BTEC students here :) So glad you've both got this channel going, you've got some awesome stuff on here! Thanks again for being an awesome lecturer. The time spent learning from you was probably the most important period of developement for my musicianship! I still use the killing machine for my key signatues :)

Dude, your picture is tiny and you've got a beard now, which you probably didn't have back in the day, so I can't see who you are. Is it Nathan, maybe? Lemme know man, I'm stoked to reconnect! And a deeply heartfelt thank-you for your kind words about our time together, that means the world to me. Truly. Thanks to all the amazing questions of my former students, like you, as well as being able to practice my teaching on you guys, I was able to create Hack Music Theory. So a sincere thank-you right back at you, my friend. Looking forward to finding out who you are! Don't keep me hanging :)

@@HackMusicTheory You're spot on dude, it's Nathan! :) It really was a huge privilege to explore music with you dude. I still speak with much of that old college gang (John/Sosh/Lyle etc) and we still often speak about what a great experience college was, a big part of that was undeniably thanks to you. Sosh and I have actually formed up as a team since then and we've written quite a bit together over the years. Look up Momentary Spirits if you fancy giving us a listen! Thanks once more dude and best of luck with the channel continuing to grow and all other endeavors!

Nathan my man!!! Sooooo good to connect with you again dude, it's been frickin AGES!!! Firstly, a deeply heartfelt thank-you for your incredibly kind words about exploring music with me. It means the absolute world to me, Nathan. Truly. Secondly, that's amazingly amazing that you're still in touch with the other dudes! Please say hi to them from me. Your class was a good one, that's for sure! Believe me, not all classes are created equally haha! Are any of those other guys still making music? If so, please share. And on that note, thanks big time for sharing your new project. You have no idea how happy it makes me to know that you're still making music! I only had a chance to listen to the first song, but I loved it!! I've got your EP saved in Spotfy, so I'll listen to the rest later. Love that cover artwork, by the way! And who's singing on the EP?

This is wonderful! And uncanny. Just yesterday I was working on a project where I wanted to incorporate something of this nature (it involves the Prelude to the Second Cello Suite by J.S. Bach), but I was rather tentative and uncertain as to how to approach it. You have provided me some solutions and ideas here, so thank you so very much! 🙏🙏🙏

@@HackMusicTheory @Hack Music Theory @Hack Music Theory tysm, you guys are super rad :) I ended up with a 9/8 beat that includes a 4/4 snare pattern overlaid. I've been trying to emulate a jungle like style (similar to Phil Collins or Simon Phillips) so I used Toms and ghost toms instead of hihats so its nice and dark. I'll try and share it with the community too! Fingers crossed for some sun but it is the wet coast :p awesome to hear from you Kate, send my best to Ray! 😁

I've always wondered how the hell you djent guys memorize all that polymetric stuff and are able to play it just like that... Are you just counting and thus know where every odd meter should start or rather feel it so you don't have to count? I've listened to many songs including such rhythms and still having a hard time getting in sync with it, my mind cannot spot where the "one" of every odd time meter bar lands (no problem with 4/4 backbone though) in the whole track.
