Great video! I immediately thought those failed clock faces would be great as fountain parts. Just run a bubbler up through the center hole.

“So that way when you’re out in the garden doing gardening stuff you can look at this and go whoa oh it’s time to go inside.” You probably didn’t expect to get a laugh out of this but you got a good one out of me.

Yea, that's the main purpose of time I believe. To tell you when you gotta be somewhere different or to tell you how long you've been where you are. ;)

'Nother great vid, thanks. Went crazy a few years ago when faced with the cost of clock movements - the big price-break came at 100 units. Bought a hundred. Made many raku clocks. Kinda' freeform and wacky like all of my work. No numbers though. What do you need numbers for? You can just kinda tell right?. None of the clocks had regular features so what actually happened over time is developing an interactive relationship with the clock, you really "get to know it". Became fond of saying "You can make ANYTHING into a clock!" Voice in my head said one day, "Oh yeah? Make THIS into a clock!" It was a 6-inch paper plate with a couple q-tips and a piece of napkin with some hardened J-B WELD. It was on the wall for a few years until I moved and my favorite clock I ever made. Will begin buying cheap used clocks for their movements - great idea! Aloha

Where did you get the stuff to make the spring molds, especially the sea turtle hatchling ? For the clock try to bisque face down and glazing firing on the small kiln posts on the bottom so it doesn’t warped. I do some firing objects on posts and it does prevent warp. Thank you 🤗

I love this! Great directions. I also like how you used Goodwill as a source for the clock parts. I hadn’t thought of that. The sea turtles are super cute. Did you create your own mold for the sea turtles?

Yes I did. At first I used refrigerator magnets as the original, but it was very limiting as far as size and variety. I've been using a laser cutter to make my own. One of these days there will also be a video showing the process. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this video! I am a high school ceramics teacher and I am having my students make clocks as final project. This video really helped them!

Awesome! Thanks so much for watching my video and using some of my ideas as teaching tools! Is there anything you'd like to see me demonstrate or maybe a challenge from students? It would be fun! Thanks again!

So helpful seeing this and beautiful work! Did you make your center hole about 10% bigger for shrinkage? That’s the one piece I can’t figure out precision with.

Another Tip , if you have IKEA in your area, they sell clocks for $3 and you can use all the parts for pattern.

Jamie, where did you get the turtle and starfish molds? Super helpful video. Any thoughts why clay didn't stay flat? Would some sort of clay stave or rolled clay help as a backing structure?
@jamiedovefloridapottery2686 Жыл бұрын
I made the molds from found items. I rolled out the clay a little thin & the kiln fired hot. That seemed to be enough to stress the clay to its limits. Great question!

Why the clay ring on the back of the clock face?
@jamiedovefloridapottery2686 Жыл бұрын
To allow room for the clock mechanism & give it some depth. All ideas I thought would be different.
