Im an old guy that likes to mod anything that I get my hands on. Usually the ability to do clean mod jobs comes from many years of hacking things up. I have to say .. buddy that was a clean mod! You paid close attention to detail of cuts and fitment. Great video documentation! Very impressed! Now .. that kinda gave me the itch to create a set for my Jeep :-). Good job bud!!

This is amazing. I've been thinking of doing a low profile retrofit for a while and this helps a lot. If I may make a suggestion, though... put "4x6" and "retrofit" somewhere in the title of your video. It'll help direct a lot more people to your video.

Dude...this has to be one of the best conversions Ive seen on this type of housing. My Firebird has the 7"x6" housings. Ive had projectors kicking around for YEARS now. My main issue is the depth due to the pop up lights. This install has inspired me though. I really like the way you made the PVC adapters and used them as the shrouds. That was genius. Giving you a huge shout out if I ever get back to the project because Im 100% using this idea! Thanks for the video!

Nice i love these type of diys for important things like head lights. Thank you, where I live stock headlights for a older car are not enough, lots of cracks on the streets and potholes such which can mess up your car at night.

Very nice!...One idea for people who want the shroud to have a crome like finish is you could cover the PVC shroud with that aluminum tape then polish the tape with compound and buffer wheel until it has a mirror finish.

It probably isn't, but since I have a need to make things perfect (in this case to make the light cut off level perfect), it would've taken me days to finish both side. Wanting better headlighting for my 1986 mr2, the best upgrade i have at the moment is the H4 Hella 7x6 conversion housings (reflective housing), I tried adding a OPT7 LED bulb but the housing makes too much glare for the way that the bulb was constructed, and didn't have a good cut off.

Breyden - when I hot glued the projectors into the housing that's when I set the depth. I could slide them in and out to set the right depth. Then I tacked them in place when I had the right depth set.

Justin Depew i have the exact same headlamps and just ordered a set of the same projectors. My question is, based on the projector length and overall size, would it be possible to mount them just like you did but without cutting the back and instead removing the glass and mounting them through the front? Cause i noticed they stuck out quite a bit on the back

This is pretty much unrelated (potentially), but I have a 2002 Saab that has a small bulb, maybe 5 watts inside the light housing. Even if you turn off the headlights and have the fuse removed for the daytime running lights this 5 watt light will turn on, apparently it's to keep the headlights slightly illuminated at all time to give them a bit of "sparkle" so oncoming traffic can see you. I did a retrofit and removed them.

hi Justin I have also converted my sealed beam crystals to Projector headlights on 2015 May. I used the original shroud this was possible because i opened it from the front. I didnt throw it to the oven but i used a hex saw to remove the binding cement. Also i used GREY 999 GASKET MAKER as the sealer instead of epoxy and foil and to reattach the lens to the back. And it is a fine job and works well. Believe me or not for the entire thing i used a angle grinder, a screw driver and a hex saw only. You have good equipment man. One small problem some moist leaks in from the bulb opening. If you find a solution please let me know.

GREAT job. Looks excellent. Did they come out level, like to pass a vehicle inspection. Do they "vibrate" at higher speeds, whereas to cause headaches in driving for longer distances?
@JustinDepew
@JustinDepew 8 жыл бұрын
Oscar Lechuga they do not rotate because they are glued in place. Also I haven't noticed much vibration. Although these pop up headlights are more subject to vibration than standard headlights, but that has nothing to do with the projector.

Great stuff i like it very neat build was there a downside to the build? I'm wondering if these style lights cause temporary blindness to oncoming traffic? and how did you adjust them to point straight?Do they work for immediate visibility?
@JustinDepew
@JustinDepew 8 жыл бұрын
Projector lights are designed to not blind oncoming traffic. They have a very sharp cutoff at about bumper height. To adjust them, I made brackets with adjustment screws to aim the lights. You can see pictures of this on my website. The link is in the description.

I thought only high school girls drove Miata's. Anyway why is this so much better than the Amazon lamps in their original configuration? I couldn't find the exact projector lamps you used at The retrofit Source but from their prices I would say you spent between 2 and 3 hundred dollars on this project.
@JustinDepew
@JustinDepew 9 жыл бұрын
The lamps from Amazon are not real projectors. They don't actually project and cut off the light like a real projector. They basically just scatter the light everywhere. I already had the projectors so I did not purchase them. But if I had to buy everything new I'm guessing it would cost about $200.
