Also watch out for speed reading videos especially the "How to read 10,000 Books a Day" variety. They just make you feel bad.

Easy tips on how to make reading a habit: 1. Reading a page a day is still progress. - Small steps matter and no progress is too little. 2. Start by reading the books you want to read rather than the ones you think you should read. - Pick up something you want to read rather than forcing yourself to try to read something you don't like. 3. Don't compare your pace of reading to that of others - Rather than measuring your success as a reader by comparing yourself to how fast someone else reads, measure it by things like the level of enjoyment you got from reading it, how thought-provoking the book was, the number of new ideas you got introduced to or all the characters you fell in love with. Thank you for the helpful video and the wonderful insights! 😃

Love this! It's the obvious things that we always forget because of our fast-paced world. I am always very hard on myself with the amount of books (or even pages) that I read in a set time, but then I look back and see that I have done well enough. Social media can be a great poison to our progress as many are aggressive in their actions. It's as if it's not much of a hobby but more of something to do to put out contents. It's sad but if that's what they wanna do and if it makes them happy, then I am happy for them too.

I struggled with the same thing. I’m a relatively slow reader, but as long as I’m being consistent, enjoying and learning from the books I read then that’s all that really matters in the end.

Excellent advise. Huge respect for diving into Russian literature. When I was in 7th grade, my English teacher asked each of us in the class at what pace they read. Most popped off with some number. One girl said a page a minute. I also went with the crowd and gave some number. One boy had the nerve to say he didn't worry about it. He said he figured the great masters or any author didn't work away for years so some teenager could come along and rip through their work at a page a minute. In high school I learned that he was accepted by a host of Ivy League colleges. I'm sure he went on to great things.

Thank you for sharing that with me! I can see why he went on to great things, that is a very mature mindset from someone so young! It really can be a great disservice to a work to read it quickly and without thought. A disservice to one's self as well because you're not getting everything you can from the book. There is so much we can learn about the world and people through books.
