Maybe a larger caulk gun along with drilling small holes in the pvc to let the water drain would be effective. Also using a round dowel or even a capped piece of smaller pvc may help push the log out if you could apply force against the ground. Cool idea though!

Yep, every one of those suggestions would definitely be an improvement, for sure. I think I overly complicated the design here.

Neat idea. You could probably make them longer if you cut the PVC in half and held it together with hose clamps. Get a PVC cap drill the bottom out and put some mesh. Then you can pack them to the brim and not worry about getting it out, just slide off the hose clamps and pull apart. Plan on trying that myself

Great video! Pipe clamps around the slotted end will help decrease the pipe from opening so far and still allow water to escape easily

I was thinking zip ties. Use a couple - leave them loose enough to slide up and down the pipe

Instead of clamps, what about just a really good strap? Like one of the Velcro ones that you put through a loop and fasten?

Use a hose clamp adjustment just bigger to slide off but tight enough to hold mold together also use it with the slot down it works for the same thing using four slots fyi

I'm going to try this. But I going to add wood saw dust to the paper.

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered... What about mold? Wet paper sitting around for up to a month? Is there some kind of prevention, or have you simply not had a problem with it? Anyone thought about drying them faster in a very low temperature oven?

Can you use these when you first light the fire or does the fire have to be well established first?

I was wondering if you could somehow make a hole in the center of the paper long ways so you could run a small rope with candle wax on it for a wick? I’m thinking it would burn better?

I think you could... Whether it'd be worth the time and effort, only testing it out would tell you. Worth a shot.

I've been checking out loads of different ways to compress the paper and card - this looks fairly promising. What is not so impressive is how these logs burn. It would have been nice to se a video of your logs on fire. Mine just smoulder like charcoal briquettes.
@UrbanSelfSufficiency

Smoulder is what you want, that way they burn for hours and hours so you don't have to wake up every hour to refill your stove. Throw a bunch of these in the stove and you'll sleep for much longer.

@@xMrjamjamThanks for letting me know what I want - I thought I wanted it burning like a log so I can sit in front of a roaring fire with the kids, roasting marshmallows, but apparently I don't.

Why didn’t you just drill holes in the pipe instead of cutting those slats, maybe the paper would squeeze out through the tiny holes?
@UrbanSelfSufficiency

Nah, that would've been a lot smarter thank the slits.
@babypower9582

There is no point to cut that pipe. Drill holes and is enough. 3 of those will burn for 30-40 min You can see a burn test here kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqTGl5dor5eqZq8

You're absolutely right. The cut was a bad idea. Thanks for watching! Jim
@MegaXcal
@MegaXcal 6 жыл бұрын
actually, the cuts are much easier. Will be harder to get the log out if you have holes, as the holes will put though, making it harder to get out. The cuts are perfect. Thanks for the video
@UrbanSelfSufficiency
@UrbanSelfSufficiency 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers. I actually think there's no need for anything; the water will squeeze out of the end and having a smooth bore will mean the log pops out easy enough. Thanks for watching. Jim
