Using my formula will allow you to get the size of basket you want for your projects.
This rectangle shaped basket with rounded corners will allow for 3 large TP rolls or whatever you want to store in your basket.
This rope basket requires no sewing machine as it is all glued together.
Full step by step video so you can make this basket too.

You made me laugh. Glad the grey hair encouraged you to craft away and have fun! It’s ironic as I was just thinking about how I come off as an artist that is older. So thanks for the encouragement and support. I may be old but will fill my days with arts and crafts as long as I can. I wonder if viewers will still watch a 90 year old doing crafts. lol.

It seems it might work well to use a piece of foam core board and pins to start the base at least in the beginning. The sides could be pinned as well. You could draw your dimensions/pattern on the foam core. I haven’t made this as yet, but I definitely will be and I think I will try the straight pins. Your basket is beautiful and I’m anxious to make one for my daughter-in-law.

I had a couple different designs for the handle. I had just the bare driftwood on top and you will laugh but I thought it looked like a pice of poo. lol. Kind of funny as it was being used to hold TP! Maybe covering only parts of the driftwood would have worked too.

Love this basket!! I was thinking that a person could sew the bottom and then glue the sides to start the straight edge and then once it’s started you could sew. Just thinking that it would go faster. Not sure if that would work! Thanks for the great video and instructions!!!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts

Yes! That’s what I was thinking too! But couldn’t show that for a tutorial as anyone without a sewing machine would not be able to do this project. So I had to glue it all. It might look a bit inconsistent if you glue part and sew a part of it but it would go faster for sure.

As I am watching this video I was thinking this project would be easy to take with you if you are going on vacation and know you will have some down time. It’s easy to bring your supplies and will fill some of your time and will make for a relaxing vacation. I have always made baskets with a sewing machine. I like this project be cause I can do this in another room and not be in the sewing room by myself.

Great video Patti - was wondering if you considered gluing with a hot glue gun? Would have to be very careful so it doesn't show, but I was thinking that may make the sides firmer, making them stand up and it sets up so fast you wouldn't need clips.. All that gluing would drive me nuts! I think I will definitely sew bottom and top lid and then glue all the vertical portions. Seems like the mod podge would further strengthen the sides. You are the best teacher on KZbin!!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts 6 ай бұрын
I used the fabric glue because it is permanent and washable. I find hot glue does not work the best for the rope bowls. Lots of comments on sewing some parts and gluing some. This will work but for the video I needed to keep it consistent so glued the whole basket. Especially for those that do not own sewing machines. It will be fun to try different methods for sure. Enjoy!

@@CraftyPattiArtsCraftsthank you , I do not own a sewing machine. And I like that if I use this glue that you used that I can do this slowly. And wash the bowls. As they can get dusty. And also I am good with using these clips as I go. Also and wondering the cost of this craft? And what other fabric maybe we can use, that is the cost that I am worried about, crafting can get pricey when living on a fixed income. Anyways thank you for taking time to slowly show us how to make things. I’ve watched two of your videos so far. Cloth paper one and thus one.

The rope is anywhere from $10-$20 depending on where you live and where you buy it. Try going to second hand stores for the fabric to save money. All crafts have some expense to them but of course it’s the fun in making something homemade.

This is genius! Thanks for explaining how to make the size you want. It makes total sense! I love that fabric glue. I use this and beacon fabric-tac glue and am wondering if you’ve tried it. It’s kinda my go to and dries much faster than aleens fabric glue and is just as strong…..though doesn’t dry shiny. Just curious?

This is so cool. I can’t wait to be that advanced to actually make something in a certain size. I have a question. I’m just trying to make a flat trivet and the center of the trivet is doming upwards. I do have a completely flat sewing area. I have one of those quilters things that sits up against my sewing machine. I’ve restarted it twice so far and now I’m gonna have to restart it again cause it’s doming up in the middle and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. are my stitches too tight, I’m on 5.5 zigzag, 3 stitch length and I’m using quarter inch 100% cotton rope.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts 2 ай бұрын
If it’s doming than you might be pulling on the cord. Just let it slide between your fingers and just help guide it to the cord beside it. Keep your left hand flat on the rounds on the left while you are sewing.

Beautiful Basket - I have to ask - how did you get the glue off your cutting mat ? And - did the tackiness go away on the basket. AND - have you tried to make this sewing it together? Thanks for the wonderful Video !!!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts 3 ай бұрын
The glue was still wet so just wiped it off with with soap and water. The tackiness is gone now. As I mentioned in the video I wanted straight up sides right from the bottom and with this shape of basket it is more challenging to sew this shape. I did try and it was angling out too much for my liking.
