Simmer for 30 minutes. Next, turn off stove, cover with a lid and let stand overnight (not in fridge). The next morning, bring to a low simmer again on the stove. Simmer for an additional 30 minutes. Turn off and let stand until it cools naturally to room temp. Pour off into jars and place in the fridge. This tea will preserve in the fridge for months!

I infuse my rosehip tea in a thermos overnight. Love to drink it warm in the morning ❤ Here is a recipe from my Ukrainian granny: Grind your rosehips in a wooden mortar, rinse a thermos with boiling water first, put the rosehips in the thermos, and add hot water (80 C / 176 F) so as not to destroy useful vitamins. Close the thermos. Keep it overnight for infusing. A rosehip tea is very popular in Ukraine 💛💙

I have never heard anyone say..or talk about the vitamin C content in rose hips in regards to destroying it in the heating boiling process? Because I've always heard that vitamin C is very delicate and can be destroyed by boiling?

@EK-fl8yz - You can also chew the flesh of them fresh. Just be careful because underneath the flesh, there is this nasty stinging wool. If I want to eat it fresh, i usually cut it in half and clean the inside thoroughly. You can do this when the flesh is firm, before full maturation, when the flesh becomes soft and mushy.

Looks good! We find this rose hips anywhere here in Alberta Canada. Thought it’s useless and just full of thorns that’s grows with the bushes But my moms friend said yesterday that we’ll go for a walk and we’ll pick up rose hips. Send me the pictures and it’s this one. We went home with 2 bags of rose hips. That’s the reason why I search for videos on how to cook or make tea and found your awesome video. 👍 thanks for sharing.

i’m very interested in what you mentioned here. I’d like to do it too, but I’m concerned about powdering the whole thing, mostly because of the little hairs in next to the seeds that are supposed to be very irritating, and even damaging if ingested. did you remove the seeds and hairs before drying and powdering your hips?

I've read somewhere that it's better to store dehydrated spices whole and grind on demand when you use it so they have a longer shelf life and less nutrient degradation over time. I have a nice productive plant and wanted to dry them whole. I've never done it before so was picturing leaving them whole. I saw someone once just take whole dried rosehips and steep them without grinding into a powder. It seemed simpler and you wouldn't have to strain the seed hairs out. Is there a loss to steeping them whole? Thanks

@zaizen4359
@zaizen4359 9 ай бұрын
Here’s something to consider: It’s not just the heat that denatures/destroys nutrients but it’s how long you expose the plant to heat that matters-it takes varying amounts of time to degrade different nutrients. It’s totally possible that pouring boiling water over rose hips does only minimal damage (if any) to the vitamin C and other compounds. I haven’t looked into this in depth, but please let me know if you find any info :) Also, in South Korea, schisandra berries are cold steeped in water in the fridge overnight (or perhaps 24hrs or more) You can try to apply this to rose hips and see how you fare!

3:39 3:39 hi, love your video. Thank you. Question. I'm in 5B, Ontario, canada and the past 2 weeks my rosehips have been looking gorgeous. Then we had a couple cool nights, and they have started to turn. I picked some of the ones still looking fresh. I keeping hearing that the best time to harvest is after a frost, which may be a few weeks yet, but i think they'll barely be visible as a rosehip. Some are going mushy/wrinkly now. Have i missed the most optimal time to harvest them ? I'm planning to dehydrate them, and am splitting them up, cleaning out the seeds, etc, as i was watching your video and was happy to see you just process them whole. What a time saver!!! Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks. Eve

Hi there, I favor picking when they are at their rubi-est red in color... regardless of frost. After frost picking is fine, so is winter picking when they're very dry & crinkly... but I enjoy them most fleshy and deep red. Pick when you enjoy them the most is my 2 cents!😊 And yes, i process whole and have never had a problem with seed and hairs as people seem to be really concerned about. If I had to split and deseed them, rosehip picking would never happen, LOL!

😂 I must laugh. I cut all my rose bushes back a few weeks ago and threw away all my rosehips. 😢 Ugh. While I was doing it I had this nagging feeling I should be saving them but I didn't really know what to do with them. So, last night I went outside to save the rosehips growing on a rose bush at the front of the house. I only got a handful. 😂 This afternoon I washed them. Then cut them in half and scraped out all the fibreglass like inside and seeds. Horrible stuff. I washed all that off then dried the halves with paper towel. Then put them in my food dehydrator. What a job. They are drying as we speak. I also cut stinging nettle growing around under the rosebush. I washed the dust and bugs off everything and let those air dry until I put them in the dehydrator. I made a cup of nettle tea for the first time in my life last night. Very good. My nettle leaves are drying with my rosehips. 😂 I expected the nettle tea to tast like grass but was pleasantly surprised. It is difficult to say what nettle tea tastes like but it is pleasant. I asked myself why it took me so long to try these things out even though I have heard about how good they are for one. I think I was nervous to try making a tea out of plants that sting and make tea out of rose berries. I had to jump over my own shadow. And I am laughing at myself as to how meticulously I cleaned out my handful of rosehips only to watch this video and find out I didn't need to go to that extreme. 😂 Cleaning out the rosehips wasn't fun. That white fibreglass stuff inside the rosehips just didn't appeal to me to be drinking. Next time, I will simply dry the rosehips in the dehydrator whole, then grind and store. So thank you for sharing your tips and showing us how easy things can be. Take good care. 💕🌱🌿

Hi, I'm not sure if a wild rose plant will grow from the seeds inside the rose hips...or from cuttings. However you can buy a wild, nearly wild or heirloom rose plant (that will produce rose hips) from either a local or online nursery. I've added a link to the video description of where you can buy a nearly wild rose plant that will produce large rose hips. I'll give you the link here as well & thanks for watching! www.michiganbulb.com/product/nearly-wild-rose

I have a question though. I picked about a quart of wild rose hips a week ago and put them in my fridge. How will I know if they are still good for use?
@CleanFoodLiving
@CleanFoodLiving 3 жыл бұрын
Like with any other food - look for signs of spoilage like browning, decaying flesh, mold, etc. I've kept them in my fridge for up to a week before I had the time to get to them and they were still good to use. You can also try freezing them.

Since Michigan Bulb isn't in business anymore, do you have another place to suggest for a wild rose bush so I can actually grow the rose hips?

Ah bummer, thanks for letting me know. This rose specialty website has roses that grow the hips. The link below is for all their roses that do so (and be sure to make sure it's marked as growing the hips on each rose product page before purchase) But this should get you what you want! heirloomroses.com/search?q=rose%20hips&pf_t_characteristic=characteristic_s_%3AHips&page=1

@@CleanFoodLiving 2 questions: I'm making a pear/apple vinegar - is it possible to get kahm yeast in VINEGAR? I'm also doing a hot pepper mash as a fermentation and all 4 jars have kahm yeast on their surfaces! Is it ok to let it ferment to the end and THEN take the kahm yeast off? Thank you so much!

I have never heard anyone say..or talk about the vitamin C content in rose hips in regards to destroying it in the heating boiling process? Because I've always heard that vitamin C is very delicate and can be destroyed by boiling?
