Honestly didn't experiment with it, like you can mix 2 BSDF one with the alpha connected and one is not, then with the mix factor, you add a gradient and control the effect, but that will go from one side to another like a transition. i think you can experiment with the factor like with wave node or noise. however if you want a real time controlled effect of changing the transparency area, i think the geometry nodes can help here, but i need to look into that. if it's a fixed area like you don't need to change it you can go with the factor as gradient or just isolate it on a different material without the alpha like that's should be easily manageable.
