i have inherited several ceramic pots of shell gold, and had no idea what it was for YEARS... how do i know if it still can be used.. i am an amateur calligrapher also studying middle eastern arts and would love to add it to some of my artwork.. these pots are over ten years old and i only recently realized what they are ( while looking for gold leaf on line) thank you esra, for any help

This is the best tutorial I've seen on KZbin on the subject. Thanks for sharing it. I have a question. How long can you keep the liquid gold without applying it? Does it have to be applied immediately after the second wash? Thank you.

Thank you Ramon. I am glad you enjoyed it. So when I wash the gold. I leave it over night or for 8 hours (repeat 3 times). After the last time when I get rid of the water from the last wash only a little bit remains. I leave it for a few more hours and when I come back to it it's usually dry. I have some dry gold from two years ago and it still works. Make sure you watch the how to paint with gold video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qn2ke3mhgZtmhas tho keep in mind, once you start adding the extra gum arabic or the gelatine to the water to make it liquid again, the quality will start getting affected. I hope this makes sense. Best of luck

I didn't count the drops because you need to be able to feel them during the making. If it's very dry add another drop and take it as one by one guided by how it feels.

Thank you! Yes you can use honey instead, but use it in a similar quantity otherwise it won't wash off

Yes the water evaporate even in winter don't put it in hot place. Juste need to pour the excedent of water when the gold set at the bottom

WHY should you do that? There's gold dust, there's gluing the gold leaf on the shell. Why?

What is the reason for washing the gold? Why not just evaporate straight after the first solution is made?

You need to wash the gum Arabic with the water, so you have pure gold at the end
