Not quite the same though. With stock plugins the duration of the slide is determined by the length of the note, so you could have a very long glide an a short one on the same instrument without any automation. With third-party plugins the length of the glide is fixed unless you automate it. But yeah, that's just how it is.

Unfortunately, there is none. Every synth is a little different. But the principle is the same though. You might end up having to look for it. Some times it's hidden away somewhere.
@raverone9095 жыл бұрын
Aside from the piano roll's slide note feature allowing you to slide, there's the added powerful bonus of adjusting the actual length of each slide within that piano roll. You can't get this type of control from using the portamento features on 3rd party plugins without getting into some really complex automation on portamento rates. So when I want this type of control, I stick with FL native plugins, which can be limiting, but improves workflow... it's a trade-off, really.

These videos are awesome, thank you FireWalk. Question - if I'm using a VST like Serum, is there any way to adjust the volume of the notes within the piano roll? With Harmor or Sytrus you don't run into this problem. The only way around it seems to be to make the sound in Serum, move it into Harmor, then adjust the volumes in the piano roll? This is annoying though because you then have to start all over if you want to tweak the original sound. I understand that Serum has volume controls, but it's impossible to adjust volumes for individual notes - and that can be important if you have a melody with tons of notes. Thanks in advance!
@FireWalkMusic7 жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about the velocities? In third party synths you have to set up what controls what in the modulation matrix. Not all presets will come with a modulation for the velocity already set up. In that case, you will have to assign it manually. I don't have serum in front of me right now, but I remember that it's velocity settings are located in the lower right of the synth. Look for where it says "velo" and "note" next to it. There you can set up and adjust the velocities, so that when you press fast and hard on a key, it becomes louder, and quieter when you push gently. I assume this is what you were asking? If it's just volume controls you're after, you can also use events in the piano roll to manually set the volume for every note.

Sylenth1 is still good. I know people still use it, but I'm surprised so many still consider it their favorite. It is very good though, and simple to use. I think that's one of the main reasons. Not to mention how easy it is on the CPU compared to synths such as Spire and Serum which is also very popular right now :)

native fl studio plugins enables you to glide entire chords (polyphonic glide). do you know how to do that in third party vsts?

The glide function is unique to FL Studio's piano roll and therefore only works with native plugins. The amount of functionality you'll get out of third party plugins is dependent on the plugin itself.

Nice again. This was a topic I discussed with Gol many years back and the lack of some midi standard to make it work. Your method is a stop gap but doesn't get quite the same as the FL natives, which are _note A to note B over time period C_ that's what makes them so powerful. I use this all the time when composing lead melodies. All 3rd party VST portamento is over a static time period. So I rarely use it as it can't be as expressive. If I have a 3rd party synth I want to use as a lead like this, I'll open up the low high/ range and then automate the pitch bend to get it from note to note with the time I want on a per note basis. But it's a pain.
@FireWalkMusic7 жыл бұрын
I think FL users tend to be a little spoiled when it comes to the piano roll as the slide notes are unique to FL Studio. Other daws have other features that FL doesn't have too of course, but once someone get used to the slide notes it suddenly becomes quite tedious to achieve the same thing with third party plugins. :)
@XORISHE7 жыл бұрын
I was doing some more experimenting with this, this morning - It's the best solution I found for this so far. In Sylenth1, I went and added its "porta time" to the piano roll events so that I could draw the portamento time whilst plotting notes. It works fairly well.
