they are hard to find. we have bought them second hand, still with pictures in them, and cleaned them very very good. and threw the old pictures away of course. you can make them too yourself, just using the thinnest glass you can find (for picture frames or so) or the thinnest glass for windows (which is slightly thicker than for picture frames). another possibility is glass from laboratories.

got me a rank aldis tutor 2 from city recycling for $10, plan on doing a lightshow for a mates band. I can cut some glass slides from some old picture frames and use some juice and wax from some broken lava lamps. All i need now is for you to do another video [using the aldis model] for dummies. Cheers.
@sjacokarmelk13 жыл бұрын
We have only one aldis tutor 2, but it is more or less a spare projector, incase one of our older type aldis projectors die. But, we know that other lightshows use them. I assume that it is a matter of 1. removing the heatfilter(s), 2. do not break lava lamps for the liquids but use ink for inkjet cartridges or stampink or foodcolor, 3) no need to use any oil in this phase, 4) what you can do is experiment with a drop of alcohol, 5) make sure your glasses are clean, 6) show us your works, 7. do not hesitate to ask.

What's your favorite liquids to use? I recently made my slides and it's working perfectly, thank you very much
@lightshowsphinx42893 жыл бұрын
Hi Snitzall, no favorites in particular. foodcolor is always fine because i think it is pretty harmless for everyting and everyone. and i like to use glasspaint from the brand DEKA (made in germany i think) Probably not for sale everywhere. Deka has many colors. But is smells somewhat like aceton or that kind of stuff. by the way, i am preparing a new site for my new lightshow,, called Lightshow Classics. My objective is to have everything ready in about a month or two. please check it out then. have fun sjaco karmelk

So you are not adding some alcohol and/or ether?

Hey, I have an Aldis Tutor 500, but it's a little different on the inside. I removed the heat shield, and then some other piece of convex glass (another heat shield?) that didn't seem to effect the projection. I likely need a voltage converter since I'm in the US, but it would seem to be at least hot enough. I have some microscope slides, but thinking they might be too thick. Are you cutting your own glass or what type of slides are those? Looks like the suggestion was to get picture frame glass and cut that? Thanks for the tutorials.
@lightshowsphinx4289 Жыл бұрын
i know that there are aldis tutor projectors with two heat shields. it seems you have one. Hard to imagine that microscope slides are too thick. I mean, authentic slide glasses are about 1 mm thick. we use them, as we've been lucky enough to buy a pack. but picture frame glass is ok too.

@@lightshowsphinx4289 OK, I have one with 2 for sure then, I removed them both but also thinking it's not getting enough power. Thanks for the reply.

@@lightshowsphinx4289 well, I got frustrated and put the slide right over the bulb and got to see the effect for a min before I blew the bulb (thought it was the slides cracking and didn't care). Do you have any recommendation on replacement bulbs? hah
@lightshowsphinx4289 Жыл бұрын
@@lightninray i guess the original bulbs (220v 500w) are hard to find. i would use another type of bulb: halogen and of course the right socket. we use halogen 220 v 500w in leitz prado as well. and we are really happy with them such as sylvana a1/244 220v 500w

Beautiful, I really like these projections. I am doing visuals with overheads but I also wanna get a slide projector soon as possible. Do you got any recommendations for me?
@lightshowsphinx42894 жыл бұрын
we use several types. i like to use leitz prado which are made to use 500 watt light bulbs, that means that they have a cooling fan. light bulbs are hard to buy. also a pretty good projector: leitz universal with halogen 24v 250w. other good projector is rank aldis 500 and even 1000 w. in the old days we also used a noris projector. if you buy one, make sure you can create room for the slides. in our video we have shown some of the projectors we use.
@lightshowsphinx42894 жыл бұрын
sorry for the extremely late response. could be much toto late. i hope not. anyway, we love leitz prado with a cooling fan 220V 500W. leitz universal 24V 250W. all aldis tutor projectors are also pretty good. watch our tutorials on www.lightshowsphinx.nl

@@lightshowsphinx4289 I have a leisegang fantax 500, where removed the fan because it was getting rid of all the bubbling action, now im a bit worried that the 500 watts lamp will get too hot and die, ill use for it not too long at a time though. Love ur stuff btw!
@lightshowsphinx4289 Жыл бұрын
@@kasparzachrisson8052 late response, too late i assume. sorry for that. anyway, you better replace the fan, as indeed the bulb will get too hot. i think you better remove the heat filter, which is a somewhat grey flat piece of glass in the projector.

Great tutorial! One question; Could I use polycarbonate plastic instead of glass?
@sjacokarmelk12 жыл бұрын
i assume that polycarbonate can not stand the heat. but, i have never given it a try, so, please do the experiment and make a video of it.

great tutorial! thank you for that, tried it for the first time last night, but the glass cracked almost immediately after it started to move... any tips on how to prevent that? :)
@lightshowsphinx42893 жыл бұрын
hi mikenr1 we have had many broken slide glasses, so it in not unusual. somehow your slide got too hot or the heat is concentrated too much on 1 spot. can you make the cooling air of the fan touch the glass of the slide? sometimes that is easy (with aldis tutor and leitz prado it is, for we have made some kind of valves for doing that). furthermore we have often used cellotape or ducktape to aim the airstream in the right directions. you can also try to use lighter and / or more transparent liquids, since light/transparent colors absorb less heat. in one type of our projectors (leitz prado) we got lucky and managed to make the heatfilter adjustable by sliding it up and down and fix it on any position that works good at the very moment. make it work, mike, regards, sjaco

@@lightshowsphinx4289 Hi Sjaco :) thank you very much for your quick help! I have a Leitz Prado as well and the fan is going towards the glass so it should be good, or at least i thought so.. i thought of trying some kind of oven-door glass or something... we´ll see.. maybe i´ll try your heatfilter solution as well. anyway, thanks again :)

Is there anyway to buy something similar that can do multiple liquids but seals? Would be nice to be able to transport them without the liquid getting everywhere

Not exactly the same, but I know that Optikinetics has projectors and rotating liquid wheel slides that might make you happy.

How big are you able to project with these slide projectors? I have an Argus 300 that I’m trying to use but the projection is very small compared to my overheads. Am I missing something?
@sjacokarmelk12 жыл бұрын
overheadprojectors are with a short focal length. such as 1 to 2 meters. slide projectors are designed for projection distances of at least 2 meters to ... whatever the length of the frontlens makes possible. so 85 mm is okay for 2 till 4 meters. 100 mm is okay for 3 till 5 meters. 150 mm is okay for 4 till 8 meters. and so on. The differences between the two types of projection machines make it a little difficult to use them together in one perfromance. unless you use a very short lens in the slide projector, let us say 40 or 150 mm,, but they are hard to find i think.

where did you find those 7cm slides?
@lightshowsphinx4289 Жыл бұрын
hi there, we have bought them second hand on marktplaats, which is a dutch kind of ebay. the old photos were still in them! so it was a bit of work to get them ready for the new task. another thing you can do, is cut them yourself from the thinnest portrait glass you can find. or you can use the 4x4cm glasses of course. what country and city are you based?

Is most of the movement from the boiling of the liquids? Because I've removed the heat filter from my projector and I'm not getting a lot of movement. Any tips?
@lightshowsphinx42893 жыл бұрын
Please read the earlier questions and answers (if that is possible). And yes, the type of slides in this tutorial moves because of the boiling of the liquids. So, it seems like the liquids in your slides do not reach the desired temperature. 1 Maybe there are two heatfilters (aldis projectors), take the second out too. 2 The air from the cooling fan hits the surface of the slide to intens, which causes insufficient raise of temperture, 3 The lamp does not have enough power. Our projectors start with 250 W or 300 W. Most of them work with 500 W. 4 The colours that you use are to light. Darker (but still transparent) colours get hotter. If none of these shoots your troubles, please contact us by our site www.lightshowsphinx.nl and show us pictures of your projector(s) and more details about the way you operate. Have fun, keep on trying. Regards, Sjaco Karmelk, Lightshgow Sphinx
