How To Make Soap With Turmeric
Today, Meaghan and I are making turmeric face soap! I got lazy and didn't get the first part up yesterday. So.. today I made sure to cut the soap on camera so you have the whole thing start to finish!

Freshly ground black pepper! Works great with turmeric soap, for that added bit of exfoliation. I'm starting up my soap business and this will be a soap I offer. I use half beef tallow and half shea butter in my recipe. Finalizing my recipe and tweaks now. I have grown my own turmeric for a few years, and working on the peppercorn plant. Thanks for the video, nice to see others recognize the use for turmeric in soap!

Ive watched a few of your videos and here is my 2 cents.- Every "stand out" good teacher I can recall in my life has also, at times, annoyed me by over communicating. So, whatever people may think about the number of words that come out of your mouth while filming one of your videos sharing your knowledge and your time amounts to nothing but a fart in the wind because everyone here knows one thing for sure..that YOU are a great teacher. That is why we are here. Thank you.

One thing I learned last batch 2 weeks ago. 1st time usin liquid oils so fer us newer soapers weigh yer liquid oil separately. The last batch is probably 12% overfat. Took a week before I could unmold and cut. But once it sweats all it wants to it should be very " moisturizing " Olive oil soap

Wow! I was curious as to why your bars were that hard. I've cut plenty of times within 6 hours of making a loaf but yours was over the top hard so I calculated your recipe on my lye calculator I made. You SF'd at slightly more then 5% (Mainly cause of your oil amounts). You may be calling that a water discount (only cause others call it a water discount) but in my book you used ALOT of water which was a little more then 2.5x lye at 72.43% water. Nothing wrong with that. It just adds to the mystery and intrigue of why the incredibly hard bar of soap. Normally, when lye heavy it would be crusty on the edges. I saw no crust and your recipe was not lye heavy and perfectly in range unlike many recipes I see online. Shea butter can make it harden quicker because it saponifies faster but you only used 10%. So, ladies and gentleman, the result of my test is you have an incredibly well made bar of soap! Ohhhh, it just dawned on me why the large amount of water. Your coconut oil is 40.1%. Is that the reason? Nice soap by the way. I like it and the recipe and very good job sir. You make the complicated simple.
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Actually, most like calculators are calling for about 25% more water than I use normally. That's why I call it a water discount. The oil / lye ratio is still the same for roughly a 5.5% super fat. It's act6a little higher. We went a little over on a couple of the oils but nothing major. I think the additives and shea butter are the culprit honestly. So far I'm really liking the way this came out. Just wish it was slightly softer for the cut. But I can work that out easily enough 😁
@iwannaapple7190
@iwannaapple7190 3 жыл бұрын
@@unclejonssoap Try some vegetable glycerin. Don't know why but that will soften it up. For a loaf the size your doing, about 8-10 drops will do. Thats great for confirmation! I calculated 4.9 SF BUT Your olive oil was 50.2% and your coconut was 40.1% so thats pretty cool to hear you say you went over on the oil. Makes me feel pretty good cause I made the best lye calculator in the world.

Hello there John. I am a newbie and I had a quick question about your water and lye amounts in the recipe. What you put for the water and lye amounts work out to a 27.5% lye concentration. Is that high amount of water due to the high amount of coconut oil? Don't be mad at me but is there a chance that the 23.64oz number is actually the total weight of the lye solution and that the water amount is only 14.64oz which would give you a 38% lye solution?

Hi, you could try using wild turmeric (curcuma aromatica) . It doesn't stain, and gives a nice aroma. It is also super good to the skin. It is a bit paler in color in comparison to curcuma longa. Additional fact is that any kind of turmeric with long term use controls hair growth on the areas applied
@unclejonssoap

Also, do you know anything about cooking with either type? I'm wondering what I can do with each type in some dishes 😁
@drnandhu1
@drnandhu1 3 жыл бұрын
@@unclejonssoap wild turmeric isn't used for cooking due to its bitter taste. It is used only for skincare, especially for reducing excessive body/facial hair and treating acne. For cooking we use the regular turmeric (curcuma longa). We add only a pinch or two to add color and flavour and also to protect the gut and mouth from ulcers. I am vegetarian, so don't know much about cooking meat, but we can add it to everything we make from curries to veggies to meat. Hope this helps!!

A knife can be used but is very inaccurate for bigger cuts and much harder on your hands.

I see you use plastic to Kia your lye in at times. I was fearful it would melt or put chemicals into the lye from the plastic. So looks like it is okay…right?
