Okay so I'm back with an unfortunate update... Although I'm able to get almost 5 clear notes, in order to do that, I have to push my bottom jaw forward in a very uncomfortable way. I have an overbite... Now I have to either live with the fact that I'll never be able to play this instrument, or somehow figure out a special angle of airflow to compensate (maybe by positioning the Ney more downward? Idk, we'll see...) ... I play 21 different instruments, I even play the Duduk with no issues, but this would be my first true woodwind instrument, and so this factor never crossed my mind until now... 😥

My Persian ney does not have a “mouth piece”. So I think turkish ney is a little easier to learn?

Greetings. I want to build a PVC nay but I cannot find a fingering chart or something like that in the Internet for a La Mansur tunned ney. Would you tell me where can I find that? I Just need to know what sound give each hole in a La Mansur nay.

@@nursukron293 I have managed to produce some sound. Just try a little each day with different angle and different mouth opening. Don't use holes. If you have any progress let me know.

I have some progress, first you need the gesture shhh, after that use gesture U and whistle in the hole. Try it

Do I have to whistle, necessarily? I don't even know how to whistle like that. I only know how to whistle using my teeth, although my lips are in the same position, if that makes any sense. I have a La Mansur Turkish style Ney coming in the mail. Now I'm afraid I won't be able to play it?

Hello I have a question i can manage to produce sound only without me putting my fingers on the wholes. as long as i put one finger, and keep the same ney position, the sound disappears do you have any tips?

close the hole tightly and loosen the lips, make bigger whistle the lower you go

Ive copied my comment from under another video, so excuse the false references to statements that were not made on this particular video, but I will say, whistle *posituon* is RIGHT. I've finally made SOUND (4 notes so far actually)... But read on, its not quite that simple. Sometimes beginners can be more helpful for beginners because they are going through it and experimenting themselves. On that note, I have left some notes here: Okay, first let me say something that everybody should be clear on. I have tried for hours, and finally made my first 3 clear notes (so far, but have to go to work now). MORE THAN LIKELY, YOU ARE BLOWING **TOO HARD**. Second note, don't concentrate so hard on blowing STRAIGHT FORWARD. It is not STRAIGHT FORWARD. More like a natural whistle, the air kind of points downward. And one more time you are blowing TOO HARD. You're welcome, to whoever else is struggling. Great video though! Just thought this was important to point out. Concentrate on making a note lightly first, and the shape of the airflow, and THEN worry about blowing harder later. TRUST ME ON THIS. Also, feel at least half of the rim of the opening touching your lips. The flute itself may be facing at about a 30-40 degree angle, but the hole is NOT. Edit: Oh, and this part is hard to explain, but YES, as stated in the video, it only works with DIAPHRAGMic breathing** Edit 2: Start out with a whistle position, and to make the note clearer, and then, as stated in the video, focus on the width of your air path, and feel yourself making it more like a "laser" for a clearer note!!! Also, KEEP YOUR TONGUE like you are whistling, but you're not actually whistling!!
