One thing: When you shortcircuit a cap like this, the fat wires act like a coil with one winding. That means you have made an RC oscillator, so when you spotweld and the capacitor reaches 0V, the coil continues the current flow (ringing), so the capacitor is exposed to reverse polarity and goes slightly negative. That is very bad for a super capacitor and shortens its life and can destroy it! What you need is a fat diode 100A or so used in industrial power management, in DC welders etc. They are somewhat expensive, so you might use 10 paralelled 10-20A ordinary power diodes. A super cap is expensive, so don't use it for spot welding just like this without reverse polarity protection.

Thanks, useful info. But I think it's just easier to connect a voltmeter or simply not use the device up until 0 volts. It probably stops working properly at around 0.5V.

The problem would be that most of those large capacitors have a built-in discharge resistor and won’t hold a charge for more than a few seconds after they’re disconnected from power it’s a safety feature.

@@Perepodvyvert_s_perevorotom Yes, I used the max value instead of min, so min of 0.01a, which is not 25ohms, but 250. Hand to foot is 250ohms, ear to ear is 100ohms, hand to hand is 1000ohms. So it's not quite enough to go across the heart, but add some sweat into the equation, and it's still too close for comfort.
