Just want to help with your subtitles. 1. Cut the sand paper longer than you need. 2. Fold it, and make sure it lines up with the under side. 3. Fold the other end, and overlap it. Then make a mark by scratching it with a blade. 4. Make sure the glue is fully dry. 5. Lightly scratch the folded side so it will peel off easily. 6. Use clear plastic between the joint to prevent the glue from sticking.7. Add a thin layer of epoxy glue on both sides.8. Now you have a strong bond on the joint, and it will stay flexible. I realize that English is not your first language, I just want to help you out. BTW your video was very helpful to me. Thanks.

@jonathanleech1273 жыл бұрын
Great video, but by the time you have made 10 belts you could purchase a box full of belts with your time. I just butt up the belt ends and use packaging tape with the cord reinforcement and stick it on the back. Just make sure the sand paper is clean and dust free and use the tape lengthways for strength and not across the belt which has no strength. Takes just a minute to stick together and works great. No lumps at the joint as they butt together. For wide belts it’s better to cut at an angle or arrow shape, but still butt, no overlaps.

Who takes time for belts? When I buy belts they're always looking for money. And what do you do when you need a size that no one has? A belt you cannot purchase for love, time or money.

The glass fibre reinforced tape that many manufacturers use these days will often fail before the grit has shown signs of wear. Can't find any tape as strong as this tape. I'll have to try and repair my broken belts using the grind and overlap method. Now I have to hope to find the right epoxy glue that won't fail under usage!

What I always do with these music only videos is mute the video and replace it with music that I happen to like. Works for me. I always have a music player going on my PC all the time so it's easy for me to do. I just unpause it and let it go. Right now I'm listening to Bauhaus - Slice Of Life. It's what's playing. Just changed to Beast of Burden by the Stones. The player randomly plays files from my collection. I like it all so it's all good.

45 degree cut. 2.5 inch wide strip of nylon fabric. (parachute material or simular) Butt up the joints and saturat the nylon strip with super glue. Place it even on the 45 degree joint and place saran wrap over the strip and clamp or firmly hold down for about 60 seconds. Trim excess material and let hang over night. I have made a few thousands of these. Most for me but some for other knife makers. They hold up, quick to make, very durable, and anyone can do it.

Dear Jhon, thanks for sharing your very thorough process of making sanding belts. I was wondering why you remove the grit from the top side ? I can see why you need to remove it from the bottom but doesn’t it reduce the sanding area just that little bit. It may be that the thickness at this point would be greater than for the rest of the belt and so would bump, bump, bump each time the join came around and would get annoying. Cheers.

Some people live in countries where you can't buy everything because it is simply not available. E.g. I can buy sandpaper for my belt sander sometimes only in 100, sometimes only in 120 grit but not in any other grit. Depends on whatever. Defies logic but that's the reality.
