Great video! I had made the original Pete's Goo with miconazole, athlete’s foot cream, triple antibiotic ointment and zinc ointment. I didn't cut the dental syringe. It came out but probably because of the creaminess due to the ointment. I use Oxine with citric acid or vinegar for soaking as it is much less expensive than White Lightening.

What's good about this is it's not an antibiotic. Now we can save the antibiotics for more stubborn cases 🤠🐎

Nice job. The zip lock bag is a GREAT idea. What I love about zinc oxide is that it stays around for days. Not sure you did this, but whenever I put too much in a syringe, I just squirt some back in the original container so the monojet is filled the way you want it. I will say that I tend to waste this stuff because I only do my own donkeys and only once in awhile. I had a lot of issues pushing the stuff out of a monojet, even with a large hole. I use the mini-spatulas to shove it down in the grooves and a tooth brush when required. Makes a mess...

I showed how i squirted excess into the next syringe in the video. I use a small cooler with a hot water bottle to keep it flowing good when i use it ..might not work if it's extremely cold but where I'm at we rarely dip below freezing
@KevinPinkerton4 жыл бұрын
I did not watch the whole video, so I missed the excess syringe stuff. But I did see your comments on using the hot water bottle for good flow near the end. I have tried all sorts of syringes, including the last wormer/drench ones that Pete was using with the attachable metal tubes. If I was going around to other farms, I would do what you suggested. The syringes just killed my hands trying to get them to squirt.

@@KevinPinkerton you have to keep cutting a little off the tip until it flows. Also make it up fresh that you will use up in a month .if it sits in the syringe too long the plunger gets degraded by the petroleum products then it doesn't move freely

It’s nice to be able to see a video on the process of making the goo! :-) I was finally able to get my hands on some zinc oxide so I will try and make my own zinc cream. (We don’t have 40% cream here in my country). The ziplock bag is a great idea!

Great , take care with using the powdered chemicals, they are strong once undiluted and mixed in a wet /oil based cream they are safer. Always keeo out of reach of pets and kids. Glad the video was helpful 🤠🐎

How long does it typically take to treat a central sulcus thrush? Could you do a video on application if you haven’t already ? :) very helpful !
@grannyhorsetraining8784 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how deep it is. It can take many months to grow a fully healthy frog again just like it takes nearly a year to grow a new hoof capsule. The frog sheds twice a year so it's not unreasonable to anticipate 6 months until you see a healthy frog. The infection may be cleared sooner than that ,especially if it isn't that deep. Correct trimming and not lowering the heels too much while the frog is painful is important. Heels can be lowered after the pain is gone and the horse starts making heels first landings again. If you use this mixture for a month and you think the thrush is still active then change to another remedy. Fungal infections are very stubborn. Don't overlook the power of daily and sometimes twice daily cleaning out the hooves to get air into the hoove's tight spaces. I think i show application with that hoof model in the video. I squeeze out a line along and into the collateral grooves(sulci) , central sulcus and any other problem spots in the Whiteline area or sole then use a toothbrush and smear it over the whole bottom of the hoof. This does work on white line disease and sole infections too. Hope this helps 🤠

So I now live in Peru so when i searched youtube on how to use copper sulfate to treat thrush and found a gal from my home area (im originally from Toutle) just thought that was cool. Thanks for the info

What is the brand of copper sulfate that you purchased from Amazon? There are different kinds. Thank you!
@grannyhorsetraining8782 жыл бұрын
Make sure it says powder not crystals. The brand doesn't matter , what ever is available in the smallest amount because you don't need much

Great video , thank u! I was wondering if u need to wrap this after applying that gooey treatment? Maybe use a sanitary napkin and some vet wrap or no?
@grannyhorsetraining8783 жыл бұрын
No you don't have to. You also can adjust the amount of copper or use plain 40% zinc ointment as the thrush gets under control. Big thing with thrush is getting air into the crevices of the hood by cleaning it daily sometimes 2x a day

Will this work for white line as well ? How often do you apply it ? Where can I order the copper ? I am also ordering Big Sky minerals, copper is important. The squeegee is brilliant! Thanks so much for the video ☺️
@grannyhorsetraining8782 жыл бұрын
It could if you clean the crevices and pack it in . I would use it daily until you see improvements. You can get the Copper Sulfate powder from Amazon. You can add less copper sulfate if it seems to irritate , California Trace is my first got to hoof supplimet. Next is to get a hay test and get a custom suppliment made through Horsetech.com

After I make this and put it on my horse do I cover the hoof at all or just let him walk around in his bedding in his stall and the pasture with it on how often do I do this
@grannyhorsetraining8782 жыл бұрын
No need to cover it. It sticks on very well and a bit of water proofing because of the diaper rash cream. I also found that if the thrush is not severe, Plain diaper cream 40%zinc oxide works too. You may want to decrease the copper also depending on severity of thrush or alternate days with plain cream. It can take awhile to clear up thrush. It has to heal from the inside out as new frog tissue grows. Don't forget nutrition in your treatment of thrush and general husbandry practices.

Why not mix up the 2nd batch --the one You just made in the Zinc container add the Copper sulfate and mix the formula. Then add the mixed ingredients to the plastic bag.
@grannyhorsetraining8782 жыл бұрын
You could but mixing in the bag is more fun 😅
