I really like how you talked about antagonists. Also can you talk about anti-hero figures in a future video?
@EmeraldEdge724 жыл бұрын
Anti-hero figures have denial, it is a strong trait with them. The other name that they are often called are vigilantes, while that may be true the consistency is that of their denial. Unlike heroes who seek to contain life and villains seek to liberate, another trait is that heroes often need love while villains require Fear/force a dicey understanding but the opposite of love if fear which is force or perceived force. Anti-heroes exist in this gray area where they either care or don't really care at all. For one thing is though they are consistent in chaos or order. A few examples and you do not have to believe me on this are Batman, Punisher, Gatsu, Griffiths, and next to many of batman's villains. The hardest part in classifying them is their actions and how they think. Which can be difficult because many times they have overlapping traits from other categories. Often the Hero themselves is just the main protagonist or main hunter of the story. WAR HERO DESTROY CREATE The bottom two are anti-heroes but are difficult reads when they overlap or are paired with the other two. For example Eren wanted to kill all the titans, and in that moment he would classify as WAR, but he also wants to save humanity so he is also the HERO in the same breath. So he's either going to have to choose one action to destroy or create or at the same time both because as one destroys something they also create at the same time.

@@azaka3720 Humm I respect that , what I said in the last comment was purely my subjective opinion
@katie59982 жыл бұрын
@@azaka3720 I don't think so. An anti-hero usually takes vicious means to acheive a genuinely good end. Antagonists, because of some warped idealogy, take vicious means to acheive a vicious end. I mean, Thanos committing mass genocide to acheive "peace and prosperity" and yet leaves a culture in social ruination with a fuckton of trauma and issues--at the end of the day, is not an antihero. Sure, he sought to embetter the world, but instead of putting in actual work to help structure society in a meaningful way, he just killed everyone then fucked off and left the remaining few to deal with the backlash of his thoughtless actions. An antihero, on the otherhand, may be more moralistically grey, but they do have some sembalance of a moral compass that allows them to mainly side with good actions. Lisbeth from "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is a good example of this. As well as Jude from "Cruel Prince". Both have questionable moral alignments, but ultimately we can say that their end-goal is thoughtful and "good".

Suppose that you were sitting down at this table. The napkins are in front of you, which napkin would you take? The one on your ‘left’? Or the one on your ‘right’? The one on your left side? Or the one on your right side? Usually you would take the one on your left side. That is ‘correct’ too. But in a larger sense on society, that is wrong. Perhaps I could even substitute ‘society’ with the ‘Universe’. The correct answer is that ‘It is determined by the one who takes his or her own napkin first.’ …Yes? If the first one takes the napkin to their right, then there’s no choice but for others to also take the ‘right’ napkin. The same goes for the left. Everyone else will take the napkin to their left, because they have no other option. This is ‘society’… Who are the ones that determine the price of land first? There must have been someone who determined the value of money, first. The size of the rails on a train track? The magnitude of electricity? Laws and Regulations? Who was the first to determine these things? Did we all do it, because this is a Republic? Or was it Arbitrary? NO! The one who took the napkin first determined all of these things! The rules of this world are determined by that same principle of ‘right or left?’! In a Society like this table, a state of equilibrium, once one makes the first move, everyone must follow! In every era, this World has been operating by this napkin principle. And the one who ‘takes the napkin first’ must be someone who is respected by all. It’s not that anyone can fulfill this role… Those that are despotic or unworthy will be scorned. And those are the ‘losers’. In the case of this table, the ‘eldest’ or the ‘Master of the party’ will take the napkin first… Because everyone ‘respects’ those individuals

For me a good antagonist is one who can be terrifying, but in a way, relatable As many ppl say, the antagonist and the protagonist are two sides of the same coin So having a protagonist that can feel human, that can feel like something or someone who in a way, could exist in the real world, makes it almost perfect Take Kira Yoshikage for example, he's just a normal man who just wants to live a quiet life But one single flaw makes him the bad guy, his weird fetish for severed hands That shows us that everyone is just one slip away from becoming an antagonist themselves, one single bad day can make you the " villain "

11:42 This is why the elites are in my opinion some of Superman’s best antagonists. While most of them are underdeveloped as individual characters besides the leader, they dominate Superman not by power, but by social status. Their method of just killing the bad guys with no remorse makes the population start to root for them over Superman, and tensions between them escalate as they try to solve the same problems. Sure Superman could easily kill them, and he almost does, but he’s challenged to win, and be pacifistic to show the world that the elites aren’t in the right.

Incredible video! I love video essays, so I'd like if you did more in the future. Only one point: Doflamingo didn't directly make Luffy achieve 4th Gear. Luffy was capable of doing it since the time skip, but he likely didn't want to use it until the right moment (knowing the risk). Doflamingo was that moment. I love that the Strawhats were so strong after the timeskip that they were kinda just breezing through the Fishman and Punk Hazard arcs, and then Dressrosa hit, and that's when they realized the _actual_ level of the New World.

A great antagonist is if they feel like an actual person with realistic emotions that absurdity change who they are, as a example Griffith. Griffith was a simple knight with a band of people but his intentions was to simply gain power for whatever means necessary, this led him to become a fucking human raping demon that torments Guts for satisfaction due to Guts was being praised and was a better leader than Griffith. I think that’s an amazing example. Edit- the complexity of the character and how they can change the element/atmosphere of the story when he’s in the picture.

11:43-12:04 Alright, I’m just gonna say that GOOD GUY SUPERMAN is not boring. Superman’s main conflict stems from his origin and who he is. His body may be alien, but his mind and soul are human, which leads to some very interesting dynamics. The issue is, most writers don’t take advantage of this, and write the same old boring stuff. If you want an example of a good Superman series, please read All-Star Superman and Superman: Red Son!

For me, the best villain is Blackbeard from One Piece. Driven by what he wants rather than just being an obstacle for the hero? Absolutely. His introduction? He gets three, first with us learning his name and the awful things he's done, then we're introduced to a character who looks and acts like a comedic side-character but has the complete opposite tastes to the hero, establishing him as a foil. And finally the third introduction where the name and reputation are added to the person we've met. Pushing the narrative? So far his impact on the world has been much bigger than that of the heroes. Yes sir, I do like Blackbeard.

@jojomojofofo3 жыл бұрын
I agree with a lot of what your saying…… accept the part about Superman. When you have a character like Superman, you don’t just challenge his power. That’s what most writers usually go for, showing off his feats of strength and power, but it makes the story kinda devoid of emotion and weight. So you don’t just challenge his power…. you challenge his morals and ideals. Antagonists like Lex, Darksied, Braniac, etc. constantly do this and try break his character and see it the way they do. That’s what makes great Superman stories, so when characters that are equal to his power finally show up, it’s that much more satisfying. Btw I’m kinda tired of evil Superman. It’s kinda gotten stale for me since it’s so overused.
