Some people complain, but I like these videos that give a lot of information. If you're interested in learning something worthwhile, you need to learn to listen, else you walk away with a superficial understanding.

A couple of simple ways to avoid cracking glass jars with boiling water: 1 heat the jar first with hot water from the tap. 2 put the nettles in the boiling pan. Then let it cool a bit before you pour it all in the jar.

It's always strange when you just get into something yourself, and then you check your e-mail and see someone you're subscribed to on KZbin is making a video about it. I'm particularly excited about making Oatstraw infusions, as my nervous system is very frail and it's supposed to be an excellent nervous/endocrine tonic. Great video.

Paul, I just love the way you share & teach without ever adding the least bit of commercialism - since after all you _do_ have a wonderful line of your own creations. It sets a great example, IMO. It's hard to trust those herbalists making vids just to sell their stuff - or that can be how it seems. Gotta tell you, I'm having great results with your JingRedux. Awesome stuff! ~♥~

Oh, that those so lost to/in mind - the commercial ones, ever after a buck/euro - if they could only *see* this in themselves - & see this difference between mind acting & heart (or Heart, as I call it, for it's so much more). ~♥~

Also keep in mind if you use demulcent herbs to off set the diuretic effects of nettle that most herbs like marshmallow root and leaf are best extracted as a cold infusion to acquire its demulcent properties. If you have powdered versions it would be best to extract them in some cold water then add it to the final mixture after the nettle has cooled. Good video though, its good to know how to do hot infusions without breaking every glass jar in the pantry lol

I keep seeing folks making 'infusions' 'concoctions' 'extractions' etc with the added advice that this will ensure the body benefits from the maximum medicinal properties. But the body itself is designed as a perfect extraction system, surely simply consuming most of these medicinal herbs,fungi etc (when they are actually consumable) is adequate, the body will take care of the 'extraction'.
@MrHarpette
@MrHarpette 5 жыл бұрын
@whispers Actually you don't want to consume the leaves if those were not the very top ones AND if you harvested them late in the growth, because those can give you kidney stones.

priming glass with hot water works as well. its what ive been doing for decades. pour a small amount of hot water in and swirl it around to heat the glass a little. then start with the mass of hot liquid. the reason they shatter is from the mega cold to hot shock and vis versa.. just warm it first however and ull be good.

If you get it like that make nettle beer. I've been taking nettles all my life, learned at my mothers knee. Our house always had nettle available, as my mother collected nettles on every walk she took and dried them over the range. Just today, I made a nettle and wild garlic soup. If you have dandruff and itchy scalp, rub some nettle tea into your scalp. Flakes and itch will be gone.

You say to put the glass on wood instead of the counter. Did you not notice that the counter under the trivet was wood? I suspect that any difference in temperature was because the counter was a hardwood. A trivet would use a softer, warmer wood. The glass doesn't crack because it reacts with the cold counter. It cracks when the glass is cold and the hot water causes the it to expand too rapidly. A cold counter may facilitate that action. Generally, the best solution is to add a very small amount of hot water and swish it around to warm up the glass before adding a small amount more. When the glass is warm, add the rest of the water. You could also rinse the glass with hot tap water before adding the boiled water. The most important thing to do is to use glass that is designed to be used with hot food, such as the canning jar you used in the video. Don't use, for example, the jar that your mayonnaise came in. Also, wood does not "absorb a lot of the heat out of the glass." Wood is, as you state, "a neutral temperature" precisely because it does _not_ conduct heat rapidly. By contrast, metal feels cold because it does conduct heat well and does draw heat rapidly from the body. But I'd question whether the spatula could absorb enough heat rapidly enough to prevent breakage. There were most likely other variables at play when your jars broke.

Another great video Paul! I have some nettles growing in my little garden (I think I bought some seeds about 3 years ago) and looking forward to cooking them like spinach, as I here they are pretty good that way. I will definitely dry some and make this type of tea you mentioned! I've been taking the Jing Redux for about 2 weeks, and I'm not sure it is doing any good or not. I was at our dollar store today and seen a little girl, about 3 years old, picking up some kind of toy, and was right back to Bosnia where the kids would beg for candy (Bon-bons). I managed to hold myself together some how. Other than that, and it happens all the time so I'm not blaming your product, I have felt very well. Thanks for this post, Paul. I use dried nettle differently. I dry it, crush leaves quickly by hand. ( Very simple) then I grind them into a fine powder in a coffee grinder. 5 second job. I keep the powder, which is as fine as flour in a jar. I heat a cup of water and put a teaspoon of powder in it just as people put green tea bags in. I add lemon juice and drink it all. Nothing is wasted, and I get 100% of the nutrients by consuming the powder. Grinder turns it into dust. Mixes in water great. Can't tell I'm swallowing anything except tea.

So i have to disagree with your dried is best,surely with the drying process you lose vitamins etc? I have been searching,and on one vid they recommend that you only take 3 x tea per day,so can you OD on this and does it have negative effects???

Do you ever make tinctures from herbs? I just watched a vid saying to use Vodka and that water dilutes the healing propensities.

Also, I've watched and read a lot recently about these long infusions, but almost nobody uses a french press. That was the first thing I thought of when I decided to start doing these. Not only does it adequately strain the herbs, but by compressing it with the plunger you get even more goodness out of them. The infusion can then be transferred into a jar and placed into the fridge. Why are french presses so overlooked?

As I understand it, taking supplements is totally pointless, unless taken with their natural source. For example Vit C tablets need to be accompanied with a foodstuff that contains Vit C in it's natural.state.

Thanks for the vid, you say you should use dried leaves. I use fresh leaves, idk how to dry them. Please, is it also okay to infuse them in a hot and controles temperature (like 80 degrees) to extract the same benefits from it?

Can I have my 13:25 back? As a professional herbalist, I can tell you that proper herbal infusions are brewed for up to 18 hours - and usually at least overnight. Even then, there are methods of making the brew far stronger. Good on you for sharing your knowledge, but you should probably spend more time in school before you start "teaching" and propounding to have the "ultimate" method.

5;55 is when the action starts. Paul, don't take our criticisms about getting to the point too much to heart, we still have to look at videos on turmeric, dandelion greens, ginger, cayenne, mint, etc etc.
