Can you dry it in the mold and then take it out?

I don't see why not. If making more than one its just more efficient to take em out beforehand to move onto the next.. Or in the case of this video to speed up the process. However, i do notice that depending on the mold it might not dry all the way thru resulting in it breaking during release. If you have enough release agent and properly applied you shouldnt have issues with taking anything out even before drying. Its more flexible and easier to fix if distortion occurred while still wet. If broken while wet, it is harder to fix with a stable joint. Not impossible but in my experience ive had a horrible time fixing my dried pieces that broke and would break at the joint nearly every time.

No. Think about it. It is wet when on the mold. Then it shrinks as it dries. The ring will tighten around the mold and possibly crack or have tiny stress fractures in it, that will weaken it. Always remove clay from molds whether it is earthen clay or metal clay.
