The idea of playing the track in the key of the "dreamy vocals" is something I haven't done in EDM. I choose the key first then find "dreamy vocals" to fit that key. I don't know why I haven't done it the way you suggest in EDM since I've been in plenty of bands as a keyboard player for a couple decades before going EDM a few years ago. In bands and in the studio the chosen key is always what the singer is in. Thanks for the reminder.

Trance, like all EDM genres, has subgenres. I 've heard plenty of tracks that don't have dramatic build-ups and big drops but have enough ingredients and the vibe that Trance is known for.
