Great work and nice moulds. I would have kept the dyno in the first part of the silicon mould. So instead of taking the first poor apart, I would have fliped it all over and just removed the clay and keep the dyno in the mould. This would keep everything in the right place. But you are doing well.

What about putting a channel into the mold which goes from the top to the lowest point of the empty space. When pouring n the resin it will rise from the lowest point to the highest and there will be a lower risk of trapping bubbles. I don't know if you will use resin on this one but in general it sounds like a clver addition to me.

I know I'm not him, but when I do it it's sort of eyeball it and dependent on the pose of the animal. sometimes the axis is different too, like the top and bottom of the animal are the two halves.

Sooo curious if I make this mold following your steps do I need the vaccum or can I just pour resin and use a vibrating table?
@Kayakasaurus5 жыл бұрын
I used a vacuum on the Silicone so that it could be used to pressure cast. It’s not necessary to vacuum the silicone if you’re not going using a pressure pot. I don’t vacuum the resin, I either just pour it in or use a pressure pot

What type of clay do you use?
@bitsurfer01014 жыл бұрын
How do you determine where the parting line is? I understand that you are using the clay to set the parting line but I'm not sure how you got there.
@Kayakasaurus4 жыл бұрын
With a simple object (or a model cut into multiple parts molded separately) the seam might go down the middle symmetrically and you could even skip clay, stand it on wires to support and later be vents, and use a knife to cut it out of a block of silicone. With a more complicated part where legs stick out the silicone would surround them and get stuck. So basically the seam follows everything that sticks out (like arms, fingers) or needs a vent to stick out of it, starting at the tail vent, to each limb each digit etc. I try to avoid undercuts where the mold halves would interlock like a puzzle piece. And also avoid shaping acute angles where the silicone would come to a point and not be as solid. I hope this makes sense

what alternatives do we have for the silicone air bubble thing when pouring if we don't have a pressure machine?
@Kayakasaurus2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the purpose of removing all of the bubbles from the silicone is so that they don’t get compressed when pressure casting. If you’re not pressuring casting then just carefully pouring the silicone is good enough! Smooth on also has no vacuum silicone called Mold Star 14-NV which is thinner so the the bubbles can rise out on their own.

Why can't you suspend the part with pegs from the bottom or small wires from the top... pour the bottom, release the parting line, and fill to complete the mold? I seem a lot faster and less prone to voids and error from hand filling the bottom with putty first.
