The oil cleansing method has been around for a while now with mixed results. But in this video I’ll show you how to make & use a DIY oil cleanser that’s customised to your skincare needs. If you’re a fan of oil cleansers, had trouble using them in the past, or just curious to see what all the hype is about - this is the perfect oil cleanser tutorial for you!

HOW TO MAKE & USE OIL CLEANSER | Oil Cleansing Method
To make the my perfect Oil cleansing routine, follow these measurements:
• 25g Grapeseed Oil
• 17g Jojoba Oil
• 4g Rosehip Oil
• 3g Vitamin E Oil
Now oil cleansers work great for some and have even helped acne and skin issues… on the other hand there are a lot of cases of people breaking out from oil cleansers. If you have specific skincare needs, follow these substitutions to customise your oil cleanser.
For Extra Oily skin:
Substitute Jojoba Oil with more Grapeseed Oil
For Dry Skin:
Substitute Grapeseed Oil for Olive Oil
For Sensitive Skin:
Add Chamomile Oil, it’s anti-inflammatory and reduces redness & irritation
For Normal Skin:
Add a variety of essential oils for fragrance but add no more than 5 drops to avoid irritating skin
The Science of Oil Cleansing
Oil Cleansing is based on the scientific principle that “like dissolves like”. Because water doesn’t mix with oils so you have to use harsh cleansing agents to remove dirt. Oil cleansers naturally bind to dirt and impurities on your skin - breaking down makeup and unclogging pores. It leaves the skin’s natural moisture barrier in tact because it doesn’t rely on cleansing agents.

@Keys Universe Hi my love! So glad this video helps, I have eczema too so I know the struggle 😩. Chamomile is an essential oil so you don't want to add too much. I'd recommend 3 - 5 drops, it's potent enough for you to still get its benefits. I've just made a homemade intensive oat lotion which might be a good fit for you too 💚: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYitZZSAiLh7e6c

Been using this method for ages since I started wearing tons of make-up for work. I found that cleansing oil really remove all my make-ups and then finish it with mild facial wash felt like my face finally breathe free again. Just to ensure to apply skincare afterwards for the skin to have some nourishment throughout the night while sleeping. Thank you for sharing this! Will definitely try making my own cleansing oil now.

I make self-emulsifying cleansing balm with castor oil in it. Castor oil and emulsifying wax help it rinse off beautifully - no need to wash or wipe off the residue. The recipe I'm currently in love with is Forest Cleansing Balm from Humblebee and Me.

Really enjoyed watching this. In the 90s I read a book written in the 60s by the dermatologist to the Duchess of Windsor (Wallis Simpson). It Advocated strongly the use of only oil To cleanse your face. Then you were told to rinse your face six times with very hot water. I was in my 20s at the time so I thought I’d give it a try as it’s pretty revolutionary and I thought if it was good enough for Wallis Simpson, then it’s good enough for me. Everybody else in my age group was using cleanser, toner, and moisturiser or soap. I’ve stuck to this method for many years and never have I used soap on my face since. In ancient times the Romans used oil on their bodies to cleanse the skin, and had a special scraper they would use to scrape off the dirty oil. It really does make sense to use oils to clean your skin because the dirt is suspended in the oil that your face produces. It’s the same principle as using orange oil to clean bicycle chains. (A bit extreme but I think you know the idea and the science behind it.) It’s really nice to see someone else who believes in the oil cleansing method. I really like your videos

Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission. I agree you can rinse your face more than 3 times but not with hot water. It would have to be warm. Hot water I do not believe is good for the skin. It sounds like you have been doing this a long time is this correct? If so, I guess hot water has worked for you but it's hard to believe. 🤲✝️🙏

What gentle cleanser do you recommend? I have oily dehydrated skin and find oil cleansing is the only thing that battles dry patches. But since I'm oily just oil cleansing starts to clog pores. I'm tempted to use an olive oil based bar soap but the internet says bar soaps are bad for dehydrated skin!
@WholeElise

It's so hard to find the right balance! I've been using my own natural face cleanser so that I can easily control how much cleansing agent I put in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5a9gn-hqLubgMU There are quite a few natural face washes about, and i know that a lot of people prefer to use pure liquid castile soap and dilute it themselves if you'd prefer not to make from scratch. Bar soaps are tricky because it really depends on the individual soap on how moisturising/cleansing they can be. I don't think there's one rule to follow in regards to that, but try to pick one that has minimal ingredients, includes glycerine and puts emphasis on "moisturising" or "mild cleansing". Hope that helps! 😊💚

@WholeElise

Honestly I'm not sure.. Selling homemade products are tricky because there are a lot of regulations to jump through, many of which are region-specific so I couldn't say for sure. But you'd have to think about being able to guarantee the sterilisation of the environment, bottle and equipment you use, as well as the certification of the ingredients you use, in addition to guaranteeing the shelf life of your product. Sorry I couldn't be more help with that! 😊

While that is true for many people, straight oil cleansing (sometimes twice if I have makeup on) works best for me. I only do it in the evening use an ACV toner last and the excess oil absorbs into my skin leaving it soft and evenly hydrated. About once a week or two I will also use a diy sugar scrub and a wash off charcoal mask. This system cleared up my acne and I only ever get it when I get lazy and only wash with water for an extended period of time

@WholeElise
@WholeElise 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nika, the amount of oil you use is usually determined by its potency. So base oils like jojoba, almond, grapeseed etc make up most of the cleanser. But for active ingredients like rosehip, vitamin e, essential oils you'll only need a small amount. Some oils also have a recommended concentration so you should always do your own research, especially if you want to change and customise this recipe. But a good rule of thumb is the smaller the bottle of oil (and higher the price) the less you need to use! Hope that helps 😊

@WholeElise
@WholeElise 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Any oil has the ability to breakdown other oils, but Castor oil is quite thick and viscose so it might put more pressure on your skin as you massage it to remove makeup. Warming it slightly before using will help with that. It might also not be the best choice if you have acne prone skin, but feel free to use whichever oils work best for you 😊

How long do these last like do they go off after a while? Thank you 🤎
@WholeElise
@WholeElise 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Samantha! It has a shelf life of 4 - 6 months, it can be prolonged by using dark/amber bottles and keeping away from direct sunlight. Oils tend to lose their potency after a while so it won't be as effective after this point. The vitamin E oil works as an antioxidant to reduce the chance of your oils going rancid but if you notice any change in colour, consistency or smell then definitely stop using it and make a new one! Hope that helps 😊
