1. Heat the water: Begin by heating the desired amount of water in your kettle. It is recommended to use water at a temperature between 195°F (90°C) and 205°F (96°C).
2. Grind the coffee beans: Grind your coffee beans to a medium-fine consistency. The grind size should be similar to granulated sugar.
3. Rinse the filter: Place the V60 filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water. This helps remove any paper taste and preheats the dripper and mug/carafe. Discard the rinse water.
4. Add coffee grounds: Place the V60 dripper on top of your mug or carafe, and add the ground coffee to the filter. Tap the dripper gently to level the coffee bed.
5. Start brewing: Start the timer and slowly pour a small amount of hot water (twice the weight of the coffee grounds) over the coffee bed, ensuring all grounds are saturated evenly. Allow it to bloom for about 30 seconds. This allows carbon dioxide to escape and ensures better extraction.
6. Continue pouring: After the bloom, pour the remaining hot water in a slow, circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Try to maintain a consistent pour rate to ensure even extraction.
7. Stir (optional): If desired, you can give the coffee bed a gentle stir with a spoon or stirring utensil to ensure even extraction.
8. Let it drip: Allow the coffee to drip through the filter into your mug or carafe. This process should take around 2-3 minutes.
9. Enjoy: Once the dripping stops, remove the V60 dripper and discard the used filter. Your V60 coffee is now ready to be enjoyed!
Remember, brewing coffee is a matter of personal preference, so feel free to adjust the grind size, water temperature, and brewing time to suit your taste.
