Damn, as soon as he went out under those fluorescent lights, the gelatin became super transparent, more so than real ears. They looked so good outside and under the hotel/motel lights. DAMN YOU FLUORESCENCE! lol.

It looks totaly awesome! But is the final pease realy just gelatin? And if so can I also use vegatable gelatin?
@Bonzulac8 жыл бұрын
Seeing the final product, you can understand why Frank mentioned that it's preferable to sculpt the ears on the full head casting to check for symmetry, proportion and scale.
@MrChief1019 жыл бұрын
You got some big ole ears, bud! The end result is over the top; really good. I think Frank was still under the weather-- I believe the ears were sculpted to be more upright. As applied, they are more wolfie. Still a lovely job.

Its crazy how back-lighting the ears breaks the illusion so quickly from the translucence. Of course, actual ears can be translucent with strong enough back-lighting too, but in that case you see blood vessels and structure in the ear. I wonder if there's any shortcuts to emulate that. I imagine in film, where they have control of the lighting, they just wouldn't back-light it.

"Oh great, now I can make myself Vulcan ear....." "You need to make a live cast of yourself." Yeah, nope. I appreciate the video, but I doubt there's a single person who made ears based on it.

I am currently working on Denobulan (Star Trek Enterprise) prosthetics and I did make a live cast of my face and ears. So there is at least on person (me) who does that for an authentic project like that.

Ever since this was posted I have been dying to make myself some elf ears but I can never afford the expensive materials used on tested. Today I was able to make a cast of my ear just by pressing some plastalina clay around my ear. Still figuring out what to fill it with. Hotglue made the plastalina melt so I am going to see if freezing the plastalina will help.

@michaellauinger74064 жыл бұрын
If you have to do a cast of your ear first, you would think that would be part of the instruction. People coming here for the first time don't know anything about that stuff. I don't know anything about that stuff. I don't know what to get, how to apply whatever has to be bought, or how to do it, Etc. Seems to me that's the initial most essential part of making the prop in the first place, so that should definitely be part of the included instruction.
