question though: about that magic sprite image thing: would it work for actual photos? I have a site with a gallery of pictures and I am wondering wether that would be worth it... they all have the same width but not the same height (3 columns)

Well, for galleries there's no need to do image sprite. Images that are outside the slider viewport are not loaded initially. This means they will only be counted as a request as soon as the image gets inside the slider view

Image sprites died with coming of http/2, while http/3 on the way.

You're right, but still it helps to kill some requests, especially if you have images in the header.

@@archwebdesign requests are not a problem anymore, but this sprite takes to load 3 times longer than 3 images separately))
