problem i noticed is that u had to cut the scene of the videos before the machine puts the object to the box ,which means probably there is a chance that your machine had a hard time detecting the object effectively in real time, other than that the concept is good and keep it up

The machine puts the object to the wet side only if the object is soaking wet. I tried it for a fruit with was partially wet and it sent it to the dry side. I also pressed it on the soil - moisture sensor. Is there anything that I'm doing wrong?

Yes you can but both sensors are used for different purposes. Still you want to add proximity then you need to make a small change in code

No there is no dedicated sensor You can separate both materials by its property for this u can use high quality moisture sensor Some gas sensors (not sure but I think biodegradable can produce some gases while decomposing)

Servo motor need stable power supply and if we r using non original arduino then there are power supply stability issues. You can provide separate power supply to servo
