How will this affect the upcoming ability to uninstall Cortana, Edge and Bing etc with the EU member countries settings? You know the recent new EU regulations that forces Microsoft to let the user make their own choices and not force all Microsoft stuff on everyone. "UK", "English" and/or "world" is not a specific EU member country, especially not after Brexit where UK left EU, so maybe you need to chose a country within EU to actually be able to do that? I think Microsoft came out and specifically said that it will be determined by your regional setting on set-up and that they will chose to "trust" what region setting people make to then let that trigger/activate/access the ability to remove those features (edge, bing etc). I think it will become available in April 2024, but I'm not sure if it will only be accessible with new Windows 11 installs, or maybe throgh some update which will even allow it on old installs as long as they did chose a country within EU when it was initially installed/set-up.

Another paid option that it's better in my opinion is StartAllBack (Formerly StartIsBack++) Even if the name suggests it only changes the start menu, it also applies various patches to Explorer, letting you choose the W10 or the W7 layout, BUT they're updated to fit more in W11, aka updated icons, proper Mica and tab support (without being huge as fuck). Also patches the taskbar making it more like the older one and adding extra options on top of it. As well as patching some stuff in all the OS, like using classic context menus by default, fixing color inconsistencies and so on.

one thing you didn't have to do was disable web results in the start menu. i always turn that off with a registry edit. microsoft caught lying once again claimed that disabling this was removed in windows 11, but it works with the exact same registry edit for windows 10. the entire feature was not to make web searching more convenient (if you're going to search the internet, your first inkling would be to open a browser; and every browser lets you search directly from the address bar anyway) this was totally to drive artificial and accidental traffic to bing to make their numbers look good. totally evil. windows is rapidly becoming malware.

I agree with you and 99% of the complaints on windows 11 changing stuff doesn't bother me because I use windows hotkeys. I didn't used them before buying my 32inch ultrawide 2k monitor but learning them made me so much more faster. Start menu moving around? You have a god damn windows key on every keyboard that opens the start menu. The new right clic menu is less cluttered, the most used options are at the top, it's better organized and it tells you the hotkeys. People complains about the system trays and the sound settings... IDK about you but I use the volume mixer only when I set up the volume for an app. Once done I only need the general volume or the volume bar/option in the app (eg: youtube or games) which is faster to use than opening the volume mixer. I have a much easier time navigating the setting menu and I'm much faster at finding the specific option I want vs control pannel but not every options are available there. Is Win 11 perfect? No! Did it removed some options? Yes. It's still much better than windows 10 or 8 as far as modern windows goes.

The key I bought at Whokeys (win 11 Pro) doesn't work. I have windows 11 home, but the activation technique via powershell doesn't do anything. Also, trying to upgrade via the windows function tells me the key is invalid. It is quite annoying to loose +-20 like that... Not really a great addition to a tutorial.

I've bought a new laptop with win 11 home and I saw this video showing a way to upgrade windows 11 home to pro without the need to reinstall windows and so I've bought a win 11 pro key but that did work. So is there any way or method to upgrade to windows 11 pro without the need of reinstalling the whole OS ?

Can you put the taskbar anywhere but the bottom? I hated that Windows 11 forced it to be down there. I used to use the taskbar on the side of the screen. I ended up switching to Linux, but still curious.

indeed. you can put it anywhere with explorer patcher. Also works on Windows 10... left, top, etc.

@teksyndicate explorer patcher does seem like the perfect thing to fix win11. Good to know if I ever need to use win11

I moved the taskbar with a registry hack a while back btw - it did not work well the moment I plugged in a second monitor and had a lot of glitchy behavior re system tray, so explorer patcher sounds like a better solution.

@Yvng_remixer On Linux, you can do it by right clicking the taskbar and pressing a button! :)

I kinda forgot about the start menu I just use power powertoys run. Fun fact if you install flow launcher with matching keybinds the windows key will open powertoys instead of flow launcher. *edit* i had enabled the windows key plugin in flow nd forgot

Hell yeah, thanks a lot! I've been without a computer since 2015. I'm just now setting up my new pc. I've used other PCs with Windows 11 and I didn't like how they changed so much stuff. How do you set everything up is exactly how I like my shit to be. 🤘🏼

somehow my PC doesn't let me change the control interface... I downloaded the most recent explorer patcher update still nothing. I can see the dropdown menu but when I click any option it doesn't change at all. I don't understand why its doing that. Edit: Apparently restarting my pc fixed the issue😅

I just want to be able to put the Taskbar over on the vertical Left where it doesn't get in the way. Why did they remove that option? I hate them for that. The UI is so awful in general.

windows 11 looks blurry to me, I used it for 2 weeks and it gave me headaches. I went back to windows 10 and within 2 days the headaches were gone.

I tried to do the upgrade to pro but because it was already activated and registered it did not work. Just an FYI.

Isn't it crazy, that we have to do all this, to get a proper desktop UI? Microsoft really does not understand its users.

This was an incredibly valuable video for me. I have been looking for an alternative to the windows 11 taskbar for quite a while now, and this will do the trick. Microsoft has something with fixing what is not broken

tbf alot of the settings are for Handhelds and Touch Screens shame they dont do a Handheld version because thoose Buttons are too Small too press with a Touch Screen hence the bigger Style buttons make it easier for us on a Handheld

Use Revo Uninstaller to do those uninstalls. I haven't seen solitare or Cortana or whatever else since first use and I update every time I reboot essentially. Also have to recommend Start 11 and Windows blinds. Yes they are paid but they do what these options do with some awesome reskins available among other things but they integrate with each other so skin designers can make even better stuff. (Highly recommend Hyana Nexha by retired master, or anything by this guy and a gal going by Vampothika, both super talented.) I use both (plus Stardocks other stuffj for even more customization) and you wouldn't even recognize as being the same OS yet I also notice only about 6 percent increased CPU usage (which I've already regained by using Revo first thing after an Install) and I'm loaded with stuff. Compatibility is fine Anyway thanks for the vid
