Probably one of the most useful pieces of advice I have come across regarding audio with FCPX. Great stuff!
@DJaysParadise4 жыл бұрын
Really solid workflow! I‘ve got one suggestion: rather than using the compressor you should use a limiter (basically just a strong compressor with output control). The idea here is to have control over the output level so you don‘t run into clipping. Must make sure though that the limiter is always last in line of the audioeffects!
@thepmaexperience3 жыл бұрын
Hi I also use Limiter but I'm curious as to why it needs to be the last effect used on the audio selection??
@DJaysParadise3 жыл бұрын
@@thepmaexperience because the limiter puts a limit (as the name implies) to your output decibel levels. Any effects after that could increase levels over that limit. Also be aware that clipgain is always applied after effects so that will also mess with the limiter output levels.

Hello; I really enjoyed this tutorial. Very clearly explained without needless excess. My question is about using the EQ and then audio sweeping. When I pull up a narrow frequency to sweep, as soon as I hit play I am unable to sweep, it won't respond. Stop the clip and then the eq "unfreezes". This does not always happen which makes me think I am making a simple mistake. Hope you understand my question and have some ideas. Thanks!

Hey Josiah your audio sounds GREAT! I have a question... I shot an interview with 2 people and they had a lab on them plus we had a boom - if I was to add and clean up sound using compressor and other tools - should I do it on individual audio tracks or together? I see my main audio in Final cut as LAV1,LAV2,LAV3and NTG3 - Four Mono - On adding any audio effect, it gives me the option of adding to individual or as Dialogue... Please suggest. THANKS

How do you recommend synchronizing multiple audio tracks with a movie track. Running a camera microphone and 2 wireless microphones (recording their own tracks). I could sync the video to either of the audio tracks and the audio tracks to each other. However the three wouldn't sync right. I had to manually adjust the audio so we didn't look like an old Kung Fu movie.

Enjoyed this...easy to follow! EQ’ing isn’t something I’ve done much. Quick Q: my audio source for a new film isn’t very good (a lav and shotgun poorly positioned). How would you recommend beefing it up? Thanks mate
@JosiahVaughan4 жыл бұрын
Nick Franks well a shotgun mic poorly positioned is really bad because it purposely rejects any sounds outside it’s pickup zone. If it’s possible, I would suggest ADR (recording the dialogue again with your talent while they watch the scene to match their own lips). And if you can, record it in a similar space that it was filmed in so it sounds natural. If adr isn’t possible, then my only suggestion is to use eq and just do the same thing I showed in the video, and try to boost your high end frequencies if it’s sounding too dull. But adr is really the way to go.
@NicholasPaulFranks4 жыл бұрын

Hi Josiah, how do you remove the hissing noise from the mic? My camera does have some hissing noise when recording and other tools on final cut make the speech even more awful. If you lower the high end filter on EQ, will it remove the white noise? Which camera and mic did you use by the way? I have comica budget mic from amazon, same as boya. Hope I can fix that problem! Thanks!

Appreciate these tips so much!! I was editing a video this week with pretty bad background noise and applied your tips to one clip - and it really seemed to help!! One question for you- if I want to apply Channel EQ effects to multiple clips - how do I do that (or is it possible)?

Hi this was helpful indeed, I like how it sounds too. There's something I can't seem to fix though. I have a pretty good sennheiser stereo mic that I want to use with my fuji camera but there's quite a lot of hiss across the whole range (the mic doesn't have it's own gain knob and I think that's why). Reducing it seems to just make the sound worse. any tips? I want to film and record mostly ambient stuff I guess, meaning no interviews or stuff like that. thanks!
@JosiahVaughan3 жыл бұрын
Not sure how good the preamps are on Fuji cameras, but I’d look into getting a separate microphone and recorder. If you want a low noise floor, look for a microphone that is highly sensitive. Caleb Pike has a good mix test in this video along with his recommendations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYK2gmBsZt9oopY As far as a external audio recorder goes, I’ve heard good things about the Mix Pre 3, but haven’t personally used it.
@jakoberiksen29443 жыл бұрын
@@JosiahVaughan Awesome, thanks :) hmm yeah I want to try and avoid an external recorder if possible so yes maybe a mic with lower resistance. I know the quality won't reach that of a recorder but that would be fine too.

Salt Lemon change the pan mode to 5.1 in the inspector for each clip, and then pan each clip to the desired location. You may also need to enable 5.1 in the project settings. If that doesn’t work then I’m sure you can find some tutorials on KZbin

Great Video bro!!! Question? when u work on your Audio Leveling , do you do it at the end of your edits & you just copy the effects to every single clip that u chopped off or you work on audio levels first? because the first option looks like a lot of work lol I've been doing my Audio levels at the end lately , I always forget & than I'm like dammit I've should of done the audio first lol because once you start chopping clips you can end up 20 clips depending on how long is the vid.
@ghost-user5592 жыл бұрын
You want to do it last, but a lot of KZbin content creators are in one place and record voiceover all in a home studio. Things need more personal attention if every clip is recorded in a different place and with different microphones. There is a reason Hollywood productions use studios instead of filming on location, because they can control the whole process including audio from the very beginning. The best tip I have heard which sounds funny, but “make sure your audio is good”. Seriously, if you always try to get clean audio while you are actually recording, your audio editing is already half done. Then you only really have to focus on the troubled spots.

Hey man, great tutorial! I had no idea that the exported audio can sound different than what you hear while editing a video. And since you mentioned it, I went back and noticed this on my most recent video and ugh, I have to start putting in more effort for better audio. Now I have a very specific question because of the conditions I record in. I live in India and the heat here is really funny. You cannot turn off the overhead fan or you will start sweating while making a video and you cannot turn on the AC because it is not required and also is very costly to afford. I guess, what I am trying to say is that I record my videos (and audio) with my overhead fan on and the Rode Lavalier Mic I use picks up that noise. What exact settings do you suggest that may help reduce the white and/or pink noise created through fans in a closed, quiet, and non-echoey room? I tried a few presets on my latest video and they sounded great while editing but the export has the sound all messed up and you can see what I mean on my latest video. I really need your input for the upcoming content; hope you can take out the time to reply. Let me know! And subbed! Great work, buddy!
