I guess the big question here is in the face of so much royalty free music around why would these people/companies pay for custom music?

Tons of reasons! 1. People sell exclusive products so they deserve exclusive music. It's all a matter of how to sell and market your music. 2. No issues with deal changes of royalty free platforms. 3. The music is written for that company, so tons of money and time saved for finding the right royalty free tracks and stitch them together so they sound more or less fitting.

no royaltee free music really works with video games unless it's a video game sound pack that a game composer has pre made for games like what Scott Meilen has done over the last few yrs. . The songs need to work with the games. As an indy game dev myself, i'm being 100 percent truthful.. I do not think a single game dev would use stock royaltee free music
