use a real sponge filter instead of that, add some pebbles surrounding the sponge close the lid and connect aeration, it will give 10 times more filtration without this bubble sound

Amazing U can also add activated carbon(from old aquagard filters candles)... Red ceramic rings Indian almond leaf for pH levels Etc.. It will be odour free and happier fish
